Dodge should pay the deductible. I don't think the dealership should.

It might cost the dealer more than $700 if social media goes against them...

1/2 and 1/2 by Dodge and dealer.  Throw in a few complementary oil changes.

Google brought up this story about GM - but originally I heard it about Chrysler. Might solve the mice issue, though!

Back in the mid-'70s, one of the Japanese companies -- maybe Honda, maybe Toyota -- happened upon an ingenious way to test the quality of their cars. They would pull a car off the assembly line on a Friday and place a cat inside. (Oh, the halcyon days before public outrage at animal abuse.) On Monday, they would check the car. If the cat was dead, or close to death, that meant that no air had gotten in and that the weatherstripping had done its job. If the cat was alive, well, good for the cat, but the engineers had to try harder.

Some line workers at a GM plant had heard of this story, and thusly inspired, they tried it themselves. They found a stray cat and put it inside a Chevrolet or Oldsmobile or Pontiac at the end of the line after the last shift. They closed the door. They turned off the lights. They went home -- just like they'd heard the Japanese did. And "when they came back to work on Monday," said Lutz, "the cat disappeared."

About 18 months ago a large mouse got into my manager's '15 Murano and was killed by the HVAC fan.

Some members may remember the story of the squirrel getting crushed by the coil spring  (front driver's side) of my old Volvo 850 GLT.  No one cold figure out what it was for ages - it stank like rotting meat - we all thought something had died inside the HVAC system.  The indy shop I took it to regularly discovered the rotting pulverized corpse while replacing the front suspension bushings and scraped it off with a wire brush.

mice can happen for sure... and they get into engines and cause a stink as well... so where is the line drawn? inside the cabin is no good, inside the engine compartment ok? what if they ate their way in through the firewall? what if the customers leave food in the car all the time?

if we sold a car and it is having these issues, then fine.. we'll eat the cost and get it done with... but if this is a customer who was a jackass... who we will never see again... who parks it in a barn... what is the dealer to do? they suggest ways to keep the mice out so that they don't have to drive 3 hours to the dealership. plus, the customers bought the car prior to the bulletin being released, so the dealership really had no chance to do anything.

the factory would pick this up in most cases.. sort of like when a recall comes out for something that the owner has already fixed. but making it insurance?...  that's like the guys who go right to lawyers after a slight disagreement.

if you knew you had a 700 deductible, why would you do that? i just don't get it.

there are too many odd things here.

Years ago we had a Nissan Quest. A plastic bag got caught under the engine in the oil pan area. Melted on there and smelled terriable for a long time. Can't imagine the smell of a dead animal in there.

I remember my wife's tercel, the stench was horrible.  I drove it 40 km to the dealer in -20 weather with the window open so I could breathe.

They found three mouse head remnants in the ventilation fan.  It was disgusting.
