Do any of 2015 diesels come with a DSG?

Yes, all of the 2.0s have DSG available.

Correct. TDIs were paired with a 6-speed stick or optional ($1,500) 6-speed DSG.

Tempting... But then I wonder if all these 2015s have been sitting under rain and sun for over 2 years without moving and what it would do to an FGC any car. And the discount is not huge IMO given a likely "used" status, that is I can't imagine getting a new car depreciation wavier from the ins.co.

That's a good point. I can't imagine that parking a car outdoors and letting it sit for two years would do much good for a variety of the systems. That, and the fact you are buying what will be in effect a 2 (soon to be 3) year old low mileage used car, makes the discounts less attractive.

VW did pay the dealers to move the cars around at a prescribed frequency.

People keep mentioning that it might not be good for them but I haven't read any specifics on why.  If all fluids are changed then what's really the concern (honest question)?

It's true that by model year they are older but the discounted prices are in line with current used TSI prices (minus the dealer fees like pdi).  The real question is whether the TDI will retain its value as it would have without the scandal.  The warranty may help there, but people might be gun shy.

Lots of cars don't stay in garages, why would sitting outside for two years hurt a car?  Sure, the paint might need a wax and polish, but if I'm not mistaken, cars are built to live outdoors.

I still wonder if the 'fix' has affected how the car drives.

I'll look up a reference but the fix received in Sweden was not the same fix that we're getting. And it was software only.

So far owners haven't noticed a any significant differences with the new tune.

Looks like the fix on 2015s won't have much of a negative impact on fuel economy or drive-ability.

The fix that allows 2015 TDIs to remain on the road — and become legal for sale — already has dealers in the U.S. attempting to clear the models from their inventory. Now, Canada has joined the party. Here’s a local Canadian dealer — yes, the boastful one I mentioned earlier — touting its 2015 TDIs.

A software fix has brought down tailpipe nitrogen oxide emissions on these models, and next year’s much more involved hardware fix should bring the models into compliance. Despite an outcry in Europe over reduced performance in older fixed TDIs, VW claims there shouldn’t be a large impact on fuel economy or power. Keep in mind that the 2015 model fix is the only approved fix. American regulators have not green-lit any fix for 2009-2014 2.0-liter diesels.

You'd think if that's true, they would have no need to cheat in the first place

Well, the fixed components could be more expensive.

Well, the fixed components could be more expensive.

from what I've read the fix for many of the older models means the installation of an additional DEF fluid tanks and extensive "plumbing" and because these vehicles weren't designed that way in the first place, it could be an expensive retrofit and not worth it and possibly cheaper to just write the vehicle off, which at present is what is happening.
I think I also read that is would have cost less than $400 per vehicle to fit this set up at the time of production, but obviously VW didn't think it was worth it!

..............................................................

"Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is an emissions control liquid required by modern diesel engines. It is injected into the exhaust stream. DEF is never added to diesel fuel. It is a non-hazardous solution of 32.5% urea in 67.5% de-ionized water. DEF is clear and colorless, and looks exactly like water. It has a slight smell of ammonia, similar to some home cleaning agents. DEF is used in by Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to remove harmful NOx emissions from diesel engines.
In January 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brought in new emissions standards requiring medium- and heavy-duty vehicles to significantly reduce engine emissions, particularly NOx and particulate matter (PM). Vehicle manufacturers use SCR to meet these standards. DEF is sprayed into the exhaust, breaking down NOx gases into nitrogen and water using an advanced catalyst system. As a result most new diesel trucks, pickups, SUVs, and vans are now fitted with SCR technology and have a DEF tank that must be regularly refilled.
EPA set the emissions standards to improve air quality. NOx and PM emissions are associated with a wide range of health problems including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, aggravation of asthma, acute respiratory symptoms, chronic bronchitis and decreased lung function. The EPA estimates that the emission standards will prevent 8,300 premature deaths, more than 9,500 hospitalizations and 1.5 million work days lost due to illness, saving approximately $70.3 billion by 2030."

April 21 - in case anyone has missed the details of the Canadian approval:

2.0L TDI Settlement Program in Canada

The approved nationwide settlement program includes:
• Cash payments to eligible current and former owners and lessees of approximately 105,000 affected vehicles nationwide.
• Many of these settlement class members are also eligible to choose to sell their vehicle to Volkswagen (the buyback option) or terminate their lease without any early termination penalty, or, if an emissions modification is approved, keep their vehicle and have it modified at no charge and receive an extended emissions warranty.
• A vehicle's value for a buyback will be determined based on the Canadian Black Book® Inc. wholesale value as of September 18, 2015, with adjustments for factory options and mileage at the time of the buyback offer.
• Eligible owners can also choose to trade in their vehicle and apply its fair market value at the time of the trade-in towards the purchase of a new or used Volkswagen or Audi vehicle. In addition, they will receive payment of any amount by which their vehicle's wholesale value as of September 18, 2015 exceeds its fair market value at the time of the trade-in.

Starting on April 28, Canadian settlement class members and U.S. customers with affected 2.0L TDI vehicles that were first sold or leased in Canada may submit claims for benefits under the settlement by way of an online portal at www.VWCanadaSettlement.ca or a paper claim form(available at www.VWCanadaSettlement.ca or by calling the Canadian Settlement Claims Centre at 1-888-670-4773).
As their claims are approved, claimants will, where applicable, be able to schedule appointments with their preferred Volkswagen or Audi dealership in Canada to complete their settlement transactions.
More detailed information about the 2.0L TDI settlement program in Canada and available benefits can be found at www.VWCanadaSettlement.ca or by calling the Canadian Settlement Claims Centre at 1-888-670-4773.

The following 2.0L TDI vehicles are included in the approved settlement program in Canada:
VW Jetta - 2009-2015
VW Beetle - 2013-2015
VW Jetta Wagon - 2009
VW Golf Wagon - 2010-2014
VW Golf - 2010-2013, 2015
VW Golf Sportwagon - 2015
W Passat - 2012-2015
Audi A3 - 2010-2013, 2015

Amounts for legal fees and expenses of class counsel that will be approved by the Courts will be paid by Volkswagen Group and will not reduce the benefits available to settlement class members

Online claims begin today (April 28th) "around noon" according to the settlement website. I will be documenting the process - from online claim to shiny new car - for the final chapter of my "Dieselgate" features on Trader.

Delays aren't trivial. Many of us have deposits on new cars, with dealers not too keen on keeping vehicles on their floorplan for ever, upcoming road trips to avoid in the TDI (vs mileage), etc.
