Honda reliability has slipped, but still in the top 5 most reliable brands according to CR for what it is worth:

1. Lexus
2. Toyota
3. Mini
4. Acura
5. Honda
I feel that list loses all credibility with Mini at number 3.  How in the world is that remotely possible?

Science.

New Minis are incredibly reliable. The F56 gen had its issues back around 2014-2015 but anything newer than that is quite good.

No offence or in sanity here but what about a "garageable" FWD Hybrid Ford Maverick to replace your RL? Not a real pick-up but these days, everything is blur...

Motormouth seem to like it YT

If it cost like $20k, I would roll the dice on a Ford.....
Lighten up Francis.....

If Fob thinks his Ridgeline is an unreliable POS I'd like his take on EcoBoost. At least with Toyota there's a chance they'll stand behind their engineering.

@me_2 suggested the Hybrid, not the Eb. Ford's 4 cyl. hybrids still use Toyota tech under licence, I think.

@fob, sorry to hear about your troubles, as weird as they are. I went 20 years / 200,000 km combined on my two Odysseys and never got any drivetrain issues. The key here is probably mostly urban use outside of vacations, so little sustained VCM action. But in any case, VCM can't be blamed for water infiltrations and such.

2nd gen Ridgeline has/had three main issues:

1) VCM is dumb. I'll get 400k kms+ on my RL because it is so basic. Eats fuel, but simple. Chasing marginal FI gains bites Honda in the ass.

2) The 6 speed transmissions in the 2017 to 2021?. No good. Fixed now.

3) Alabama build assembly/quality. No good. Missing adhesive etc. Poor fitments. Look at the quality of the employees and it is not hard to imagine crap rolling out the other end of the plant. I'd prefer Mexico... Worst thing to happen to the RL was having the production removed from Ontario.

Lastly my belief is Honda cut money out of the 2nd gen Ridgeline. The first Gen was beefed up in many areas but I think Honda reduced/eliminated some of that in the 2nd gen to make it easier to switch assembly. I could be wrong but the 2nd gen does not seem to be as robust as the first. If mine doesn't corrode away it will easily last 30 years of daily "truck" duty, owners simply won't get rid of them. That is why good gen1s are hard to find.

My dad has a 2009 (made in Canada), 2017 and now a 2022. 2020 and newer actually got the ZF 9-speed. The 2009 felt really solid and well built.

I agree though that the Alabama plant has mediocre build quality and likely cost cutting.

We will see how the 2022 holds up. Fingers crossed. So far, no issues to report.

Transmission issues aside, I felt like my Canadian-built 2nd gen Odyssey was heaps ahead of my Alabama built 3rd gen build quality wise.

Here.  I'm on  the Ram Classic band wagon.   it's cheaper, a real truck and fairly reliable. V6-good economy and no fancy system.  You can keep the rest of your money for something else.

2024's in inventory are the last call for new ones as the Classic is cancelled for the Canadian market.

Does RAM stand for Rust Away Mopars? I'm seeing rusty 2010+ RAMs.

The last reasonably priced truck out there.

Here too, rear fenders go Swiss cheese in no time flat. RAM trucks and Sprinters are the most rust-prone modern vehicles out there.

It's chronic.

Too soon to tell if the latest generation of Ram will also suffer from rust like basically EVERY previous gen of Ram.  My guess is yes?

If there was ever a vehicle that should get yearly rust-check or Ziebarting, it's a Ram.

RAMs are bad for rust, the Classic body style at least...I've seen some <5 years old getting rust above the rear wheels. That said, I'd bet that keeping one clean is as simple as getting it oil sprayed annually and being diligent about washing the salt off as frequently as possible. Make sure that whoever does the oil spray removes the tail lights and shoots oil all in the bedsides and down around the wheel arch.

It was only a matter of time before the RAM Classic was pulled from the market, frankly I am surprised it's run this long. 2010-2024 is a very long run, and it still looks great today. I like the interior too, well laid-out and very functional.

For the $, I'd probably take the risk on a Classic with the HEMI....Sounds like the issues with that engine are related to oil change intervals and idling. Change the oil, with high quality stuff, every 5K and don't let the truck sitting idling unnecessarily and it'll most likely be fine. The V6 is a safe choice, and a great option for someone like WP, but I'd want the V8 to have extra power for towing.

I'm seeing a lot of rusty 2007+ Chevy/GMC 1500s as well. Pre-aluminum Ford trucks are fairing better although their cars unfortunately are bad. Rarely see a rusty Toyota truck body, although they had the rusty frame issue in the 2000s.

Is it a real problem or do the owners tend to neglect washing them on a regular basis, especially if they're used for work.
