Sucks but I'd gladly take free parts/labour at 75K vs my money at 85K.

I find it kind of bizarre that it needs control arms all around at 63K   ???
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Another issue is no service loaners supposedly due to Covid .......although the guy said they had a deal for a rental car (on my dime) for $32/day. If Covid makes service loaners unsafe how are rental cars any different?  ???

Maybe needs ball joints and bushing but they are non-service-able arms? Maybe.

Sounds like a "make work" project.  ;D
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

That's what I was thinking. They also wanted to do front brakes for around $1100 because the rotors were "rusty" and there was a brake pulsation (I can't feel anything)

That seems like garbage. We had no problem test driving vehicles at multiple dealers over the last few months.

Probably worse than a service loaner as they have to be cleaned each time

One thing I forgot to mention is they want to charge $180 to change the transfer case oil. Apparently BMW suggested "trying that before replacing the transfer case". Seems to me that should be on BMW's dime if they are "trying things". If the transfer case is slipping at 63K it would seem to be BMW's responsibility to fix it.  I checked the maintenance book and transfer case fluid change is not a scheduled service item.  Am I wrong?  ???  (When I objected the service writer said he would have to check with the warranty clerk)

Sounds like your dealer is what needs replaced. Ugh.

Yeah, I can't say I was too impressed when I left there today. I've never had much to complain about from these guys but today wasn't a great experience.  It was a new service writer that I have never seen before though so that might be part of it. The other two guys have been there for years and have always seemed relatively decent

I agree...lots of cars are like this now. Can't just change the bushing...it's the whole control arm.

Re: loaner car part of the story sounds like crap! I bet if you had walked in there saying you wanted to buy a car, they would have "loaned" you a car for a test drive.

Still though, ball joints at such low mileage?

And no way I'd be paying for the transfer case fluid change, they can go pound salt with that crap!

Oh I agree with that part...still way, way too early...unless he's been doing Baja Pre-Running! LOL

And yes...they can pay for the fluid. The part is under warranty...It's their dime.

If we compare to the SRX, he's still ahead of the game with FGC, isn't he?

Though the last one he had was pretty bad, wasn't it?

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Seems like horrible luck with cars. Sailer must be getting laid every night or something to even it out!

in a way, kind of sounds like what happened at the Kia dealer with my Rio5..."we think it needs the valves cleaned, try that for $450 and if it still persists, you need all new injectors"...i had my indie clean it for about $100 and it's worked fine ever since.

So, I got a call back last week and to clarify it is just the rear control arms not all as I had understood. The front tension bars apparently have a little hydraulic pocket in them and they are both weeping. Right front strut is the same situation (weeping around the seal).

They also confirmed that the transfer case fluid change will be a warranty item.

I'm still on the hook for a rental for the day. Service loaners for same day jobs were never a covered item but rather a "courtesy" that has been suspended during the pandemic. It wouldn't matter to me if the dealer was local but I really don't feel like spending the day hanging around Moncton so I will drop the car off at supper time the night before and do the rental thing for 24 hours.

I like the car but with the 6/160 extended warranty having the dealer 165 Kms away may start to become more of a PITA as it ages.  :-\

Appointment booked for Sept 17.
