1972 911 T Resto
« on: June 21, 2017, 07:13:46 pm »
This is one of the proprietors of Accelerated Performance...the guys who helped with my Supra build.  He sent me pics just now!  Freshly painted.

1972 911 T in rare special order color:  Green Metallic.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

What's he going for?  A full-on numbers-matching restoration?  Or a nice driver?  If I owned that car and had moolah, I'd put the original engine/trans away and install a 2.7L.

That colour is fantastic.

Full resto.  But he's going to drive it.

That looks like one helluva job... Definitely only worth doing on something you expect to appreciate in value.

Stellar colour though!

^ Why?   It's not about making money all the time. If a guy can afford it and that's what he wants to do then why not?

Great colour for sure.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Complete shell restoration like that can run up a $100K tab without much effort.  The key is to understand that you're spending that money for your own enjoyment - those car flipping shows where guys make $50K a car are such BS - they never truly account for the cost of the work that goes into them.  Some guys get lucky and do profit from rising prices (like the sudden jump in air-cooled 911 prices) but doing this level of restoration as an investment is really risky.

You have to want a like-new 1972 911.  If I had the money, I would.

I think the air cooled 911 market is going to collapse and if people want one, buy it and own it for yourself, not as an investment because long term, the escalation is either over, or close to over.

Personally, I'm hoping for a collapse so I can go and buy one :) Apologies to any current owners. Seeing "decent" driver quality 964/993's in the $40k range now which I think is already lower than a couple of years ago. Could be wrong about that as only recently started keeping an eye on ads...

^Notice the hatch on the passenger rear quarter for adding oil, it only lasted one year as too many people filled-er-up with gas.

I have noticed the air-cooled market has cooled, hope it doesn't collapse.

But really, I don't plan on selling so it just makes for cheaper parts and more for me

Amazing. Spot on perfect colour for it. I might be tempted by an aftermarket steering wheel but perfect otherwise.  8)
