Congrats on such a great purchase. Looking forward to some of your driving impressions after you get some seat time, if you are even allowed.

Do the rear seats fold down in the GS? Don't think they do in the IS.

Looks great, very clean! I was in one of these recently and it was very nice though I was surprised that the back seat was a bit on the tight side.

You didn't consider the IS350 at all? The Mercedes dealer had a white one recently, I think it was a '14 for $32k. Seemed like a great deal.

I took this IS for a test drive and it's a nice car, and this is a cherry example, but way too tight for space.

I didn't want to go any smaller than the Fusion and the IS is much smaller.  You think the back of the GS is tight!  I was putting comfort ahead of sport for this purchase.  Besides, if i want something really sporty I'll just jump in the S2000 for  fix!  ;D

Fantastic Tom, beautiful car buddy!  Great choice as I love that gen compared to the current one (looks wise).  We'll have to get the two white Sedans together this summer for a photo op.   ;)

Well my wife wanted a white car and is this thing ever white!  Snow-blind white!  :o  Nice contrast to the black S2K!

The wife's last three vehicles have been white, a lot easier to maintain paint wise.  The pollen on my MR2 and S2000 looks like sh!t right now, but you can hardly tell on the Q50.

Agree completely. White is super easy to keep looking clean. It's a very forgiving colour. Or non-colour.

No, just that gun slot pass-thru port good enough for skis, or a couple of 2x4s.  That's one thing we're going to miss. We didn't fold them down often, but it was handy when needed.

Love the white. Did you trade in the Fusion or sell privately?

Trade.  That was the negotiation pawn.  They low balled it at first by $1500 from what i expected and then eventually agreed after much back and forth.  I guess i could have dickered the same price without the trade, but I hate selling that kind of car privately.

We all bought Miatas a few years ago.  Recently there was a run on MGs.  Now everyone's buying Lexi.

Well I got same face time behind the wheel this weekend and lots of time to mess around figuring out how everything works while my wife was shopping.  I put about 500km on it with a good mix of highway and back roads during a trip to Fredericton yesterday, and a short trip down the Fundy Coast today.

As expected it is a highway cruising champ, but did equally well on the twisty, undulating, and mostly rough back roads of rural NB.  Normal mode seems to be just right for highway cruising and Sport+ was easily the best choice for the back roads.  The most obvious impression was that everything is so well integrated and that there was a lot of thought that went into every aspect of the car's design.  It's definitely a smooth operator!

I got a few chances to open it while passing cars on the 2-lane highway and it has decent power if not pin you back in the seat torque.  Compared to my old 2003 Lincoln LS V8 the GS was much more linear in its power delivery, whereas the Lincoln was almost violent when it kicked down despite having slightly less hp.  The transmission is likely the reason there as the 6-speed in the GS is a gem with barely perceptible shifts.

Man this thing is comfortable and has the best seats I've ever sat in!  The seats are 18-way, but it only took a few minutes to find the perfect setting, and the perfect seating position with the nicely finished tilt/telescopic steering wheel.  One thing we really appreciate is that both the driver and passenger have the same seat settings, so no cheaping out on the passenger side.  The interior seems no bigger than our old Fusion, but i like that the drivers seat has much more travel.  It doesn't have the premium ML audio option, but the standard audio is still much better that the Premium Sony unit in our old Fusion, so no problem there.

It's really impressive how quiet and tight everything feels.  All the controls and everything you touch has a feel of precision and quality.  For example most of the motors for adjusting things are two-stage.  When you touch slide the seat back it starts off slowly, then quickly kicks in to a higher speed when held down.  Similarly the windows start up at high speed, but slow down just before they close. Also, in the Fusion wind noise when the sunroof shade was open while travelling at highway speeds was enough that is was annoying, but it's barely perceptible in the GS.

The HMI controller thing is a little jumpy and will take some getting used to, but this is my first experience with built-in navvy, so I have no frame of reference for that.  As much of a techy guy I am at work I'm all analog when it comes to driving.  The most impressive feature imo thus far is the adaptive headlights.  I have kind of a lighting fetish anyways and it's so cool to see the headlights follow the steering inputs!  :foil:

Looking forward to a long road trip!

I love the 3.5L V-6.  The power delivery is so smooth and linear and I really find it enhances the driving experience.

The last time I tried the 3.5 V6 for any length of time was in the Rav4 I had for a weekend test drive back in 2010. It worked well too, but had a different character and a much coarser feel.

Fantastic choice - congrats!

I forgot to mention that i looked at a couple of leftover 2016 Genesis 3.8s at the local dealer back in late March, but oddly they were both the same colour of blue and my wife hates blue, so they were out.  Its a greal looking car though and they were offering something like $8k off msrp!  There were no CPOs available anywhere that i could find.

Congrats.  Step up from a Fusion no doubt.  The older I get, the more I like the idea of a big comfy couch too.  If you had winters for the Ford, hopefully they have the same bolt pattern.

TLDR - if no one has mentioned yet, I think that cutout in the bumper is for the electrical hookup - for a charging port on the hybrid models (or future hybrid?).  Perhaps it's where the block heater cord comes out of...OTOH (ok, most likely and most definitely) it might be where the tow hook hook-up is located, but why would a Lexus ever need that?  Not planning on backing it into a steep ditch anytime soon I would hope.
