Yep,  my dad seemed ageless until the last couple of years and then it was a rapid and ever accelerating decline. Take as much time now as you can to enjoy him.

for me, my bad thing is seeing my dad in really rough shape... his body is just giving up on him... when he is in such discomfort that he has to cancel MRI's and dialysis, it's not good. sat down and had a beer with him yesterday and it's just tough...

but he has been on borrowed time for my whole life, so i really can't complain... just have to remember all the good times.

Having spent a lot of time in dialysis with my brother I know how rough this is so thinking about you and your family.

i feel like a douche with my roof up on a gorgeous day ... had it up for the kids in the back yesterday, so i guess my excuses are somewhat valid...

Sorry to hear about the ailing loved ones, it's tough, and like Fob said, I think we're getting near that age where it seems like everyone is going through it. I am lucky for now, my parents are younger (my dad turned 60 last week) and in good health; but my grandmother, who I've always been close with, has been in bad shape for the last 6 months. Scary part is she went from being in perfect health in January, to having some dental surgery in February, then falling on ice a few weeks later and breaking her leg, then just has she was recovering from that she ran into some intestinal issues. The 3 surgeries have not been easy on her, an at 84 she's gone from being full of life to having almost no will to live in a matter of months.

Oh, and I am often guilty of driving around with the top-up on nice days.....The sun beating down on you gets old really quick, especially if you're in city traffic. Nighttime is the best for top down driving.....No sun, and less noise/confusion means you can really get to enjoy the openness.

thanks for the thoughts guys. as I said, it may seem cold, but i know the time is coming for him in the not too distant future. and i can say there are very few (if any) regrets, so it could be worse! i talk about him and everyone thinks he must be getting pretty old due to his issues, but he just turned 62 in may. that's the sad part... but he has been through a lot, and been able to see his four grandkids born and his children be (moderately) successful... I think he is pretty content with what he has been given considering the circumstances.

Wow.  62.  I didn't know he was that young.

I don't think it seems cold, it is what it is and you aren't denying it to yourself.

By the way my oven died.

Gas or electric?  If electric, pony up and get an induction range.  They're awesome.

*sigh* both my grandfathers passed away years ago. Dad's side passed when I was still just in high school and the one on my mother's side had unfortunately a long drawn out (10 yrs if I recall) time under hospice care until he passed 4 years ago.

Most of my family resides on the opposite side of this globe though, so I never got to see them until too late. However, at the risk of sounding cold, having grown up so far from them also makes me less attached to them.

Mice  fack

In my attic for sure.   I already searched for an entry point.  Only place possible is way way up,  I can't get to even with 20ft ladder.

Going into the attic again to see,  so much hate

20 foot ladder, 2 foot extension on drill, I screwed the vent cover back in.  There were a few wasps in there....

Really don't see anywhere else a mouse could get in, I looked everywhere all the soffit is closed tight, I went in the attic I hear something sounds like it is in the soffit itself.

So I put some poison up there.... and a trap.  I don't see any traces of anything so frustrating.  Maybe I'll just call someone that guarantees to get rid of them.

Gas or bust!

it's a wall mounted oven.  separate gas stove top.  i like the gas.    oven's electric.   i can't tell why it isn't working.

tested the relay (there's two), each putting out or in  120 volt.   doesn't look like the board is damaged but i can't really diagnose without spec sheets and taking the whole thing out of the wall.
