So that probably won't just buff out per se...
« on: October 07, 2022, 08:08:28 pm »
Got rear ended. Four cars involved. Young driver in a Toyota Matrix apparently went ham in the Costco parking lot.

Hit me and two other cars, all from the rear. Not sure how. Magical.

This is going to be REALLY annoying, wonder if the axle is buggered.

That's a lot of damage for a parking lot.

What was left of the Matrix?

The Matrix was not having a good time.  Don't have a super good shot of it unfortunately.

Fingers crossed for a write off or barring that a speedy and perfect repair.

Bummer. I got hit while parked on my street - damage looked pretty minimal but came to over $3k. Very frustrating for sure.

What would you replace it with if written off?

Was it a hit hit or more like a scrape?

When my old TSX got hit it was IIRC $9500. That was like 13 years ago. Don't have pictures from back then unfortunately.

Trying to get a gauge of how much damage this might be...feels like it is on the edge of write-off territory. Not sure.

Not a clue. I really would have preferred that this didn't happen as I'm not in the mood for a new car and I also don't want to take a monster depreciation hit and have a bent car that won't drive straight.

Bit of both. Cracked the front bumper.

My 2006 V70 wagon got punted about 6' when it got rear-ended in 2011, cost $8k at the time to fix it & that was substantial straightening of the unibody, figured they would have written it off, but the fixed it. Sold it in 2014 for $8k! Guessing now with the supply chain issues, yours might be a write off.

This was drivable and was $22k.

The other car was a Ford Ranger 3-4 years old and was written off.

Yeah its AWD.

$22k for that LR? Wild. FBC premium. the MDX is a humble NAFTA product.

Yikes, that sucks. My Buick Enclave had what appeared to be just cosmetic damage, first estimate was $11k and they were going to fix it. Then they realized it had the tri-coat paint, estimate jumped to $16k and they wrote it off.

Body work is huge $$$.

Well that did include 3 months of rental car while they waited for parts.  ;D

Looks like the rear suspension/axle etc is fooked. Hopefully not your fancy differential. That thing is probably $5k alone.

Bad time for this to happen. :P  Does look a little twisted from the photo so could be a write off.

I've been rear-ended twice in my work truck.  I'm almost certain the car that hit me the first time (Hyundai) was a write off.  The second time was a hit-and-run.  Anyways, on both occasions truck just needed a new rear bumper and some connecting parts, and I drove away from both.  BOF with big steel bumpers ftw!  ;D

Man that really sucks.  I hope it is written off, but this is weird times we live in.  I assume the cost to replace your vehicle is likely inflated (bad for write off), parts are hard to come by and are top dollar (good for write off), labour is inflated (good for write off), even with that damage the used parts are valuable (good for write off), takes long to get vehicles repaired and cost of rentals are high (good for write off).

If I were you I’d start doing some research on how much your vehicle was worth pre-crash, insurance will almost certainly low ball you so having some justification for what you want.  Also, start thinking about what you will replace it with, if it gets written off insurance typically give you like a week max for a rental.

Good luck and god speed.
