It's coming together, one day at a time.  I'm still a good 3-4 weeks at least before I'll be ready to brew on it though.  Still lots of work to be done for the steam, glycol, and electrical.   :(

I'll try to drop in early Friday afternoon for a quick gander if you are around.

I'll be home brewing on my smaller system on Friday, but will likely be there tomorrow.  Shoot me a text if you're around.

What are the controls?  Is there a PLC?

Naw, Siemens industrial PLC/HMI stuff is ok. I found them to not be terribly intuitive to program, but once you get the hang of it, they're fine.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Oddly, I've worked with very little Siemens controls, we mostly use Allen-Bradley/Reliance stuff.

So does the HMI do all the controls or is there a small PLC somewhere?  Or does it just monitor stuff and everything is manual?

Other than me manually opening/closing valves, this controls everything else.

Allen-Bradley is my favourite. Great documentation too, and the support we got from Harris & Roome (Graybar now, I think) in Saint John was awesome.

I'm not familiar with Siemens, does the HMI directly do the I/O, or is there an I/O interface of some sort in between?

How do you turn pumps and heaters on and off?
Are you looking at bottling?

So many questions  ;D

I'm curious too. This could be a panel PC with I/O or an HMI connected to a little S7 controller.

Does this help?   ;D

PLC Brewhouse Control Panel
Siemens 12" touch screen
Brewhouse vessel temperature display and control
Brewhouse pump(s) control - on/off and speed
Lauter Tun Rake control - on/off and speed
Countdown timers
Includes 5x VFD's to control HLT pump, CLT pump, Wort pump, Kettle
pump and Lauter rake drive.

And yep, I'll be bottling.  :)

Sounds like an HMI and separate PLC.

I'll be able to sleep tonight.  ;D
