Used 2012 Honda Civic opinions
« on: March 31, 2020, 12:58:45 am »
In the middle of the pandemic, the 17 year old Toyota died. Engine runs perfect too. It is the electrics. So i'm looking to buy a 2012 Honda Civic. I actually prefer the styling, Over the 13's,. So, tomorrow I'm going to look at a Honda Civic, 2012, 95000, on the clock. Why does everyone tell you to avoid it. It's got above average reliability. It is a 2012 Honda Civic, with red Honda badges, (don't know why) it is an LX model too, for $7000. I'm going to look at tomorrow.

Quote
If you are looking for a great Honda Civic coupe or sedan, look at the eighth generation (2006-2011) or the 2013 model. These years have better handling, higher fuel economy, and many more improved safety features. Avoid the 2012 Honda Civic

That is from google.  ???

2012, is pretty much same as the 13, just the 12, had been slag off by the press, for being more of an evolution and Honda, felt forced to make the changes. Engine are tune slight different, the dashboard is the same. The 12, has little bit more plastic. The 13, is 2 grand more, Same reliability. Pretty much the same car. what do you think of the 2012. Do you think it is wise to avoid and got for only go for the 13's, or take the 12, which I prefer.

Was 2012 the year they did a redesign and it was a complete flop and they did a refresh the next year to address some issues.  If you like the vehicle and kind overlook the improvements made in 2013 I'd say go for it.

^^^Yes, that was the thing.  The redesign was considered bland, so Honda re-redesigned it for 2013.

Mechanically, the cars are great.  They use the same 1.8L and 5-spd auto (or manual) as the 8th gen.  Good engines and transmissions, nothing at all wrong with them.  Mine's at 318 000kms.

If you don't care about the bland styling, and it's cheaper, you really can't go wrong.

That is why I can't understand it, and why I posed the question. I actual prefer the 2012's. I don't find it bland, No more than the 9th gen. I find it more conservative and I much prefer the rear end light treatment and the 12's do drive slight different, But hardly noticeable between the two.

This is the car I'm about to look at. I think pretty decent deal.

Seven Grand for a 2012 with less than 100 000kms?  That sounds too good to be true.  Just for reference, I'd expect a car with twice the kms to go for that price.

Check to make sure it's not a rebuild or anything.  If there's nothing wrong with it, well damn, that's a great price.

EDIT:  Make sure it's 95 000kms, and not 95 000miles.  From the one picture of the dash, it almost looks like the speedometer is set to MPH (on these cars with the digital speedo you can switch from MPH to KPH, and it also changes the odometer).

95 000 miles is 150 000kms, which would be about average the price.  $7000 is still a good price for a Civic with 150 000kms that will still have plenty of life left in it.

Did the 2013 come with NVH improvements?

That would be one reason to get the refreshed model.

I'd read a bunch of reviews on the 2013 to get a sense of the differences.

Between the 2012 and 13. There not much difference. I honestly didn't notice the difference. The 8th gens are much louder. But nothing bother-son.

I 've  had a 12 for 8 years. It has been very reliable. It was lambasted on this forum 8 years ago for the cheap interior and lack of features compared to the

Korean cars. Do some searches on this forum you will find a few .

I don't regret my purchase. It is still a Honda.

And 2012 's are rare, they were  only made  one year.  :rofl2:

If you are looking for options, I’d consider a Hyundai Sonata...

Corolla manuals are very good value. The price is a decent chunk lower than a comparable auto version.

Tomorrow I'm going to put money down on a 2013 Toyota Corolla, Manual. 101,000, $8,500. Today. I drove everything you can think of. 2011 Ford Focus, Honda Fit and Honda Civic no air, all Manual. There is nothing much in them. The Focus steering is quick, The corolla, has really long throws. The fit, was really sporty, But had damage to the front.
