So, MY key fob to the van has been acting up all winter.  It intermittently doesn't register a button press.  It seems to have gotten worse and worse as time goes on.  Locking, unlocking, and remote starting the van has become a PITA.

My wife's key does not exhibit the same behaviour, so I know it's not the receiver unit in the van.  I changed the FOB battery, alas, to no effect.

Luckily, when we bought the van, the Doc fee we paid at the dealership included key insurance.  If you lose or break a key fob, you get a brand new FOB with zero deductible.

So, I am choosing to exercise this option and get myself a new key fob for my van.  Appointment is made at the dealer for Monday afternoon.

I put my summer rubber on a couple days. It hasn't snowed yet!

And got the Porsche outta the barn. Started up right away, ran great all the way home, no issues. This week I'll change out the oil & give it a quick once over. Last fall it sounded like the front right wheel bearing was getting loud, didn't notice much today.

Classy repair

This wheel is an aftermarket replacement that will not hold onto a hubcap. I found this cracked hub cap in the ditch. A couple zip ties and it stays on nicely. Doesn't exactly match the other three but still better than a bare rim.

Checked the tire air pressure for the first time since the changeover.  I don't know if the shop checks them as they install then, but all four tires were four pounds over the recommended pressure.  Lowered the pressure to spec and now I'm ready for a smooth, no bump ride.   ;D

Washed the car as well.

Busy weekend as we finally had some nice weather.....despite the fact that I am fighting strep throat:
Saturday:
-Washed the Escalade and waxed it (2nd coat, did the first a few week ago....I usually like to build a couple coats in the spring)
-Changed the oil in the Firebird
Sunday:
-Replaced the valve cover gaskets on the T/A + an engine flush and oil change....Valve cover gaskets are not fun at all thanks to a slew of vacuum lines, ERG and other crap in the way. At least it's not leaking oil onto the manifold anymore though :) I thought about repainting the valve covers while they were off....but thinking about it was a far as that got  :P

I also started a bit of yard clean-up, ran some errands, and ordered a factory stripe kit for the '72 MGB. If the weather holds next weekend I'll get it going.

Tire swaps and car washes for both cars this weekend. Hope I didn't jinx spring. Also finally tucked away the block heater plugs and took out the extension cords. I did leave the snow brushes in *just in case*

Many things done over the weekend (for me):
- Hand-washed both MDX and Civic
- Swapped both DRL bulbs in the MDX
- Put all seasons on the MDX using my new jack for the first time

Side note - went to a driving range!

Yesterday, kiddo changed the tires over and cleaned the car inside and out as I gave pretty minimal direction. It was a nice afternoon.

Busy ordering rear suspension parts for the Highlander.  With the Miata about to finally come out, I can take a few days and putter away on rebuilding the HL's suspension.  Nice not to be rushed.

Changed the oil, fuel filter and had the tires swapped on the Golf.

They had quoted me $250.  Went to pay and they said "that'll come to $337".

Squeeze me?

To their credit they stuck to the quoted price.  But they also played the 'the tech won't get paid' card, which I thought was uncool.

Yeah. Especially since the tech still gets paid.... They were only off by $45. Not the end of the world for a dealer.

The fuel filter was $68. And they charge a half hour of labor ($70?!!!).

I'll be doing that myself next time.

That's a TOTAL dick move.  Have they just lost a customer over the difference?
