with the reviews of the Alpine A110 out, which seem to be fairly positive, I have been obsessed by French sports cars of late that do not sound like every other boosted 4cyl out there. The engine and the transmission would stop me from getting this. Compare the sound of the new one, to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM-6oIjKRa4
That is the 4-cyl even.

THIS is much better.

Love it and want one. Famed PRV V6, sounds great. Looks awesome too. Would rather get the old one than the new one, honestly.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Every time I see one of those, it reminds me of a Monza..more so the ones they used to race in IMSA.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

You mean in-famed PRV V6 - it was a crap engine.  Volvo fans hate it.

because it is not a proper Volvo engine, for starters. Volvos needs a turbo I5. End.

The PRV was a very strong block and had a lot of headroom, so much so that Alfa in 1995 began to replace their Busso block with the PRV in their DTM cars with Alfa heads, etc. Power went up to 500 from 420 - naturally aspirated and with a 12,000rpm redline. Venturi also raced an Atalntique 600LM with a turbo 24v 600hp PRV in 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the road car making 400hp. According to Wiki, the current speed record at Le Mans was set in 1988 with a PRV engine.

Not saying it was the best V6 ever made, it wasn't and it had it's share of merde applications and it was not the most reliable in road going form, but it was far from garbage.

Since most people don't race, and bought cars with PRVs for regular road use, for routine applications it was a poor engine.  And the Volvo I5 has only been around since the early 1990s.  Previously the company was known for its I4s and I6s.  After ditching the PRV, they returned to building their own I6s.  2016 was the last year for a Volvo I6.

Found myself on the VW website looking at a trendline sportwagen 4motion AWD manual.  Thinking about how close one could get to the Golf R Wagon they have across the pond.  So went to APR tuning and sure enough you can add the turbo from a Golf R, different intake, down pipe, and intercooler.  I'm sure there's also some fueling upgrades you'd have to do, not to mention bigger brake packages, suspension work, and upgraded clutch.  Anyway, the point is they are stating engine outputs of 351-357 hp with 335-341 ft-lbs of torque.

Maybe if I was rich and wanted a super sleeper I'd pay the $40k+ to get it to that point.  I'd pick the peacock green color as there isn't a brown choice.

But... even just taking the Sport wagon and doing just the APR chip gets you over 250 hp, doesn't it?  Sure it's not Golf R territory, but would still be a spritely and very fun car.  Like a GTI with luggage space and AWD.

The Renault Alpine GTA was actually going to be imported to Na and had been federalized IIRC when Chrysler bought out AMC and killed the deal.

The only outward difference was the use of pop up headlights instead of the Euro headlight covers.

I thought it was a shame it didn't make it here. It was a standout in so many ways in a sea of underwhelming cars at the time.

I had an Eagle Premier ES (nee Renault 25) with the 150hp version of the PRV. I'm not entirely sure it was a great engine. Having said that, it was about the only assembly that didn't fail in the brief time I had the car.  ;D

I don't know about 'obsessing' but I'd kinda like to have a C5 Corvette; I am just annoyed that it's still $20K+ on this side of the boarder for an 'average' example. If I could get one with a 6-speed, even if it's high kms, for around $15K I'd probably grab it.

I see them go for that from time to time.

Saw a Z06 last year for $17k....

I have too, but I've been looking for the last month or so and can't find anything in that range. I know it's off-season, but still.
A lot of the ones I'd seen over the last couple of years in the bottom end of the pricing scale were rebuilds.

5th Gen Camaro SS would get you in a similar performance bracket and is readily available in the $15-20K range, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Are you feeling okay? In almost every thread where a small truck is mentioned you say buy a full size. :-\

$50k for a 1/4 ton truck is ridiculous, buy a 1/2 ton, cheap, $10k Ranger, hell yeah.

Funny you posted that Ranger. As I was heading home from work tonight I took my usual shortcut through Forest Hill and Lawrence Park (mega old $$ neighborhoods in Toronto) and from a rear garage of some old mansion a very tidy looking Mazda B4000 pulled out in front of me. Very similar spec to the Ranger you posted; 4x4, black, ext cab, beefy A/T tires. It caught my attention because it's extremely out of place in that hood, but I also thought that it'd make a great little run-about truck. Really wish they still made simple, cheap small truck today.....Guess the owner of that Mazda agrees enough to hang onto theirs.

I'd really like a clean S10/Sonoma ZR2 to compliment my lowered 2wd ZQ8.....but I haven't seen an s-series truck that wasn't ready for the scrap heap around here in years :(

ironically, I also have been looking at trucks lately too, in anticipation for shopping for one that can tow my tiny house across the country while we travel

this one looked nice

I only know GM trucks and trust them, and by far am not a truck guy, but I am open to looking at Ford and Dodge if their trucks are also worth looking at. Used, of course.

Needs to be able to tow 10,000lbs+ on the hitch, so that is why I was thinking a 2500HD with diesel

Man looking at trucks is a whole different world than looking at sports cars etc. I feel very much like a fish out of water.  :rofl2:
