I disagree. I think they buy Toyota because they are educated. Most reliable, great resale, etc.

Most people can't afford a more car every few years, so when they buy they want want the"best" they can afford. And it's tough to beat a Toyota for problem free boring motoring

Fixed it for you  :rofl2:
I think their best sellers (Rav4, Corolla, Camry) are boring segments in general. No car I've ever driven in those segments were exciting.

Well, some would argue that the CX-5, Mazda 3 & Mazda 6 are more exciting in those very same segments... not as exciting as a 911, or IS-F though, so I get where you're going.

Yep.  Those segments ar3e FWD family haulers or CUV.  Not terribly exciting regardless of manufacturer.  But that's what 99% want.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I've said it before. I'm waiting for Tesla to announce a China assembly facility for the 3.

Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk

They may announce a "partner" too.

Quote
“Tesla is an extreme growth story with unit sales +51% last year and automotive revenues +70%. The introduction of the Model 3 will support similar/ stronger growth this year and next.

Meanwhile, further out, the company expects the growth rate to be maintained, with CEO Musk commenting last year that he expects ‘roughly 50%ish [unit] growth from there [2018]’. To put Tesla’s growth in context, we note it took Porsche 10 years and four product lines to grow from 35k units to >100k. Tesla is on course to achieve similar growth in only 3 years.”

"Extreme growth". Yup,percentages are fun to play with. 2 % or so still isn't that big a number. When it's 30 or so, than I'll say the hype is worth hyping.

Well, they all want to follow in Tesla's foot steps, so the EV market leader gets exactly what it wanted, accelerating the move to sustainable transportation!

totally agree

hate Tesla all you want, but they are accomplishing their goal - moving the industry towards more sustainable transportation. Cause they sure as hell would not do it on their own without Tesla putting pressure on the market.

This is why I can get behind a company like that - they are not just after it for the profits, the market share - that is an added bonus when it eventually comes [if it does]. They are trying to do something more than that. For us. For the planet. I like that.

Since we're being honest, it wasn't Tesla that made the push. It was California's ZEV mandate dating back to 1990. If automakers wanted to sell cars in their biggest market, they had to have ZEV compliance vehicles.

Without the ZEV program (and the related handouts and credits) instituted by California, even Tesla wouldn't exist.

I wish Tesla the best, I hope they'll succeed and last.

Imho, It is true they are a market changer and push hard in the back of the traditional auto makers.
In a way, they lead global car industry, including its supply chain, to a technology transition beyond their usual DNA.
It challenged them to improve themselves with the incoming electrification for sustainable transport.

In short, overall they were not the only factor but only one of them, a BIG disturbing one.
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

Tesla has an internal Model S vs Model 3 comparison (marketing) sheet.

Man I want to put my fist through that stuck on iPad screen.  It's just such a horrible design solution. Where's the advanced HUD system?

It looks like someone stuck a Dell monitor on the dashboard in the test phase and it became a permanent feature. Wonder what happens if you grab a corner of the screen and tug.

Musk said the Model 3 name has led to confusion among buyers who think it's a next-generation Tesla that's better than the Model S.

Quote
Tesla is so concerned that people are misinterpreting the Model 3 that it wrote about the need to temper expectations in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing in early May.

http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-3-marketing-strategy-2017-5

I wonder how many of those pre-orders were from people that thought that through some Musk-miracle they were going to get a better Model S at a fraction of the price.
