Too annoying to want to relive. Let's just say they weren't the best or easiest company to rep.....or to try and collect valid warranty claims from. The corporate culture was very different from what I experienced from either Subaru or Mercedes. (stores we also had)

My great uncle had an opportunity to partner up in the first Hyundai store in Calgary. After he sampled the product (Pony) he said he wouldn’t invest a dime. That dealership of course became extremely successful. He regretted his decision [emoji23]

I once hired an ex-Hyundai service rep. His description of Hyundai as a car company perfectly matches Sailor comments.

“Ok cars but shitty company.” That’s was his comment.

This is an outstanding article!

But Tennant's top-of-the-line Sonata — a 50th birthday present to himself, which cost some $40,000 — was a write-off.

What kind of a moron would spend $40K on a 2015 Sonata ???

Herein lies the answers:

"A large flame came up over the hood and I jumped out of the car and ran to the door and said, 'Patty, my car is on fire!' I was shaking so bad I couldn't dial 911," he said.   :rofl2:

Tennant says the images of his futile fight to bring the blaze under control — starting with a fire extinguisher, then a garden hose — are seared into his memory.    (SEARED)  :rofl2:

Atwell Tennant adds: "I was afraid for my family at that point."  :rofl2:

Mikey torched his own car for obvious reasons and attempt to divert blame on the repair shop.

I'm curious about how Genesis stacks up. Hyundai issues (lovely on the surface but problems under the skin) or are they completely different kettle of fish?  I looked at the G70 and see CR ranked it 9 out of 15 with a reliability rating of 3.5/5. The midsize GV80 SUV gets a 2 out 5 reliability and is ranked 8 out of 18 in the class so........ :-\

I suppose it depends if you a benchmarking their reliability against the Germans and D3 stuff or against the Japanese.  ;D

Buddy bought a 2012 Genesis R-Spec V8 sedan and it needed a new engine (due to oil consumption) and transmission. Both were covered under extended warranty.

It’s a common myth that their V8’s and V6’s are solid.
