Best look at the upcoming G70 so far.
« on: September 06, 2017, 06:16:20 am »
Though the wait for the full reveal shouldn't be too far off.

Article says it will share a platform with the Kia Stinger.  Good news is that fake plastic fender vents and hood scoops are not the defining aesthetic here.  :)  I have a strong suspicion I will want this car badly.

That looks really good.

I'm surprised they haven't released and SUVs yet though.

I'm not - the release plan was always for the G70 next (after the 80 and 90) followed by two SUVs.  I'm betting that if they could go back in time and take a mulligan on that product planning decision, they might have prioritized the SUVs.  But that may not have been practical given the development stage of whatever chassis will be used for the SUVs.  But whatever the case, as it stands the models are rolling out exactly according to plan.  And the G70 has always been the one I have been most interested in, so I'm not complaining.  :)  Not that I will be making a new car purchase anytime soon.  :-X

...the back end looks a little CLA-like for me.  It's not bad-looking, but a little too "miniaturized" for my liking.

That said, the dimensions are likely far more appropriate than the beastors that are the G90 and G80.

I'm a little surprised about SUV's being relegated to later release as well. I mean, I know the demise of the sedan has been exaggerated but aren't SUV's where the big grosses are for most manufacturers?

It does look there's an I-pad stuck in the dash, though.  :-[

I also see a bit of Mercedes but man it looks nice. Shame I couldn't afford it. :)

I thought the rear quarter view look had a bit of 3-series in it.   I also see a bit of Q50 too.

The G70 should be a good seller if it's a BMW 3 competitor for significantly less. The compact market is not going away anytime soon.

You look at Lexus though, the RX is their number one seller on both sides of the border. Not only that, so far in 2017 in the USA they've sold more RX than all sedans combined.

^This   Although, to be fair I think Lexus is more of a one trick pony in this regard than other luxury brands.

Yea, the ES is getting dated and I see no reason to get one over a loaded Camry, the IS and GS are certainly losing out to the BMW 3 and 5 series respectively, and the LS is obviously not a volume seller.

First impressions from the pics are very favourable. However that iPad stuck to the dash is also a turn off for me.

In that front pic, there appears to be a massive turbo left of center which has fallen to the pavement! Oops!  :run:

Looks really good!  Is it just me or do the side mirrors look kinda odd in the front pic?  The piece connecting the mirror to the body looks super thin.

Stop living in the stone age, the iPad stuck on the dash is the way of the immediate future.

If this were a G70, and I'm not saying it is, I would say we'll see the Korean-spec car on September 15, followed by the Canadian-spec car later this year. Also, if I were one of the two people in the country so far who had seen/driven the car (and the only one to have driven it in something resembling anger), I would say that I'm very excited for everyone to learn more because it's shaping up to be the best damn thing we've ever built.

Of course, I'm not actually saying any of the above, nor am I even sure the car in that photo is what you think it is.

Nothing to do with stone age.  I'm all for electronics....but FFS...can't they be a little aesthetically pleasing?
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I don't see how it's offensive.

The Lexus screen tucks away when not in use.

I hate the ones that look like an iPad stuck on as an afterthought.  Looks awful.  The MB one is the worst.

The 06-07 Mazda 5 had a power tuck away screen. Seemed like an extra piece of electronics to break.

^^Maybe....but aesthetically pleasing at least.

Sorry...I just think they could do a better job with these.

Yep, totally agree with you.  Just my own personal preference, but I honestly can't stand this recent trend of iPad type screens simply tacked on the dash.  That MB one looks horrible to me, simply a last minute after thought.

This new G70 looks like a pretty sweet package, looking forward to seeing some better pics and reviews of it.  More than likely the wife's next car after the Q50S will be electric, but this could be pretty compelling.
