I don't drink a lot of wine but I do enjoy it occasionally. Finally got a chance to try the wine from my uncle's vineyard in Argentina. It was fantastic.

Nice bar! I could get some good use out of a setup like that specific bar if the wife gets the position in Guelph come July....
Fixed ;D

Had some co-workers over on Friday.  Some brought this bad boy:

Whiskey barrel aged - quite nice.

Tried this Cab last night that Mrs. Railton bought me while she was getting beer at the LCBO. Big and smooth, just great.

Curious to find out whether or not this is still drinkable.

But we're starting on Cava, then rosé before we get to it, so might not care by that point.  :D

No, not dead, but I do have a bit of a headache this morning.  :P  ;D

It was actually pretty good. I'm sure it would have been better ten years ago, but there was certainly nothing wrong with it. All the tannins were long gone, so it had this really smooth and supple feel, but taste-wise I think it was a little dull.

And, not really knowing what to do with a 32-year-old bottle, I think I decanted it too soon. Probably should have drunk it right after pouring, rather than letting it sit for an hour or two. I'm used to decanting younger wines to let them breathe a bit, but I guess that's the last thing you need to do with a wine this old. It might have been a little brighter right out of the bottle.

Still, it was a fun experience, and enjoyed by all.

The empty bottle has gone to the garage to join my collection of other interesting and/or notable bottles.

We opened the 1960 a few years ago. Didn't even take a sip, as it was instantly apparent that it was undrinkable.

That one was from before I was born. :)

None of that fancy-schmancy stuff for me today.   ;D   Comfort food is on tap.
My wife makes an awesome meatloaf (along with a whole whack of meatballs that are heading to the freezer), pairing this with it:

Okay, this is my last wine post of the weekend. I promise. ;)

One of the local liquor stores is having a case-lot sale this week. There were a few interesting wines on sale, but nothing I really wanted a case of right now. So I was talking with a friend of mine, and we came up with the idea of buying a case each and splitting them half-and-half.

We decided on a Zinfandel and a Cab Sav. I know nothing about the Zinfandel (or any Zinfandels for that matter), but he's had this one and says it's pretty good. I do remember having something by Rodney Strong ages ago and liking it. I've had the Montes Alpha before and also really like it.

And the best part is the price worked out to $15.50 per bottle, plus a giant whack of Airmiles (232!)

Had a bottle of this on Saturday night & was impressed! Picked it up at the LCBO a few weeks ago when it was like $3 off (that's my wine shopping style, check out what's on sale to sample  :rofl2: ). For the price it was a great wine, very full bodied and left a great flavor! http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo/product/columbia-crest-grand-estates-cabernet-sauvignon/460154#.WNkMKVIzWUk

Brought home a bottle of vin rouge AOC Saint Émilion. Nothing fancy, but costs a third of what the Total Wine in the US charges.

Also accounts for a bunch of weight in the bagage lol. Along with the foie gras....fromage...canard.....
