Shouldn't it have been the opposite correlation though? Get a truck to make up for the snip?

I still don't entirely understand why Mazda has both the CX-5 and CX-50 considering they are so close in size, and now this. It's all a bit perplexing.

Agreed.  Two compacts that are essentially the same size, and two mid-size that are exactly the same size.

The CX-50 at least is markedly different from the CX-5 that it is a unique vehicle.  Wider, more aggressive styling, with 'off-road' vibes, whatever that means.  Also, different suspension and steering.

It's like there's two entirely different product development teams at Mazda

1) We want a slightly more off roady CX-5
OK, we need a whole new body/chassis/suspension!

2) We want a new model that slots between the CX-5/50 and the CX-90
OK, we can unbolt the rear seats, and....uh....new emblems!

It's like you were actually in the room....  :rofl2:

Scheming to take one out when they become available, and do a side by side feature with the CX-90  ;)

Well, that might a very short comparison if you are looking for differences.  Maybe you can get them in two different colours so you'd have more to talk about?   "As you can see, they are completely different. The CX-70 is blue while the CX-90 is silver" ;D

I could probably get my tools out in the driveway and swap all the bolt-on parts that separate these two  :rofl2:

Will use my own CX-90 again - they never put blue vehicles in the media fleet for some reason, it's always whites and reds.

I edited the thread title - Mazda issued an apology, as they made a mistake in their earlier press releases - the CX-70 will be launched this spring as a 2025 model and not a 2024.

So, no 2 row CX-90 until then?  ;D

Just like the 2024 CX-90 will enjoy an 18 month model year, so will the 2025 CX-70 as they're still launching it this spring  :bang:  :surrend:

U.S. pricing is out and... it's not great.

CX-70 3.3 Turbo Preferred   $40,445 - same price as the equivalent CX-90, but $2600 more than a CX-90 Select
CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium   $45,900 - same
CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus    $48,900 - same
CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium   $52,450 - same
CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus   $55,950 - same
CX-70 PHEV Premium   $54,400 - same but $4455 more than a base CX-90 PHEV
CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus   $57,450 - same

So.... for the same price, you get the same vehicle, but with less flexibility?

Sounds like a no-brainer to me.  Let's all run out and buy CX-70's.   :banghead:

In Canada most trims are a little bit cheaper (see above).

So that 3rd row seat is worth about $1000  ;D

Do you at least get more room for cargo in the 70? That could sway me vs the 90.

I think they replaced the rear seat with a cargo 'tray'.  But as far as actual volume into which you can fit bulky items, it's pretty much identical.

The main attraction is getting the 2nd row bench that is pretty rare in Canadian trims. I would have loved that in my rig!

What a disappointment this is. I was hoping for something the size of cx60.
Wonder how they will sell this when it’s a cx90 without the 3rd row for just a little more money.

They will probably push up prices on the 90 for '25.
