Call it what you want . But don't call it a Corolla .

But how else are they going to lump sales numbers in with the regular Corolla?

See: Corolla Matrix
i don't see it as a way of "cheating" the numbers...it's likely more to do with name recognition (everyone knows a Corolla is a Toyota) and they already own the Corolla name, so you avoid all the problems a new name can entail (registering copyright in various countries, names meaning different things in translation, etc).

I think it would have been better just to name it Toyota Matrix Would have given more people idea of what kind of vehicle it might be, without seeing it. where as, with the corolla, you think car....

Might get confusing since people don't associate Toyota Matrix being a CUV. Would've made sense for the current Corolla hatchback to be called the Matrix.

Anyways, I really hope Toyota brings this here, because they're losing a big chunk of the pie. I've recommended HR-Vs and Crosstreks to many friends - all asked if there was a Toyota competitor.

It would have made sense because the Corolla Hatchback used to be called the Matrix.

yea, the Corolla Hatchback should have been the Matrix...it was a great selling vehicle for Toyota.

The Matrix was more of a somewhat rugged kind of CUV even though there was the 180 HP XRS variant. The drivers seating position was very much like a CUV. The Corolla hatch rides like a car.

possibly, but this is 7 inches shorter than a Corolla sedan...that may be good for some, but i'm not sure what the overall space is like inside.

Will likely feel underpowered with the Prius powertrain but otherwise a great looking lil ute

As long as they give it AWD as an option (and most UX's come that way) I can see this doing very well.

Decent visibility, Toyota hybrid drivetrain, would have a lot going for it

I don't think it has leather inside but I do see why the Cross will be in high demand. It reminds me of Mitsubishi RVR but perhaps with better everything. The hybrid variety is the one I'd go for, it just make perfect sense for as long as you're OK with 0-60 being a "YES"  :P

Pretty sure if it comes here the hybrid will get synthetic leather. Can't tell in this video what it is, watching it on an old laptop.

the reviewer said it has leather, but it might not actually be leather...it might be that "softex" stuff that toyota makes, which apparently feels like leather but is more durable.

That would be my guess.

The Prime we had on Friday had Softex and it's surprisingly nice.

You can take your pick; Toyota version or Mazda version.

Will be quite a facility I would imagine.  Love to take a tour.

Pics of camouflaged test cars now being published in the US, won't be long before it arrives.

Clean pics have been used for awhile by C/D:

Good for Toyota. The demand will be through the roof in this segment. I'd expect around 6L/100km from EPA for the Hybrid. Wonder what powertrains will be offered?
