So, not so straightforward after all. I just got off the phone with the service department. The NOx sensor was seized in and broke when they were trying to remove it. The car now needs a catalytic converter and that is about a week away. All their service loaners are out but they should have one back by the end of today.

Looks like I won't be trading the ML in the next few days. ::)
Fairly common in older sensors. Though you should put a torch to it before attempting removal to prevent this

Apparently they did....still came out in pieces

The ML and dealership gets a pass on this one.

Mark this down.  Might be the only instance of this.   :rofl2:
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

You know, it's kind of sad that the end is in sight for this thread. When I started it my youngest had just graduated from HS and now she is two years out of university and living in Vancouver. I had sort of hoped it might hit 2,000 posts but I guess even this particular ML couldn't be that failure prone. Although, she is going out fighting. Adblue pump, NOx sensor and a catalytic converter all from one CEL is pretty impressive.  ;D

Dang, what a lemon. Has the MB dealer given you any indication of how your ML is compared to others they deal with?

Well, hard to get them to admit a particular model has issues but from what I can gather ML's in general aren't great. That being said, I get the impression mine is much worse than average.

Some of my friends are former X5 owners and they would like to have this list of issues.  Their issues were more severe and expensive.  They mostly drive RX's now, not one of them has a German car.  BMW should have coined the X5 "The Ultimate FGC."

I considered getting an X5 for about 10 minutes, then I sat behind one spewing blue smoke and decided against it.

I got the ML back this afternoon about 2 days earlier than expected. New Adblue pump, NOx sensor and catalytic converter. I don't want to tempt fate but this might well be my last post about ML repairs.

How many kms are on the ML?

It would be interesting to go back and sum up the costs of all the warranty repairs.
