2023 KIA EV9
« on: April 21, 2022, 01:11:11 pm »
This is the KIA EV9, Odd styling, sort of works,  $50,000 US and it's coming in 2023, about 480 on a single charge. I wonder what it be like when launch, styling wise. I'm sure they may even tone down.  This one of 13 electric KIA's that are going to be launch over the coming decade.

https://electrek.co/2023/01/23/kia-just-leaked-what-is-likely-a-first-look-at-the-2024-ev9-specs/

$56,000 for a base model can't tow. I think trim 2 is the best, 2nd cheapest but goes much further than any of the other trims.

Price   Range           HP   Torque
Trim 1   $56,000   220   200
Trim 2   $61,000   290   200
Trim 3   $63,000   260   400
Trim 4   $68,000   240   400
Trim 5   $73,000   240   400

It's still very expensive overall

I know people don't buy family haulers for performance, but you'd really need at least Trim 3 to be satisfied with this vehicle.  8.9 0-60 in the lower trims won't cut it.

Why does it make less power than the EV6 when it's clearly a larger vehicle.  I don't get it.

Well it's a much larger vehicle....I'm sure compromises were made to battery size in order to keep the price somewhat sane.  Of course, I was about the say the target market for family haulers is not above $100k, but judging from the lineup of Yukon/Range Rover/X7 at my kids' school in the morning, this is clearly not the case....

The EV6 has higher power output compared to the EV9. The exact power specifications depend on the specific model and trim level, but in general, the EV6 has more power due to its larger battery pack and electric motors.

I think he knows WHY (battery sizes and electric motors), but not why?  Why is the heavier, larger vehicle given smaller batteries/motors which results in less performance?

If it’s a bigger vehicle, with more weight and space without factoring in batteries and motors, why in the world would you put a smaller engine, less motors, and less power.  Less batteries in a heavier vehicle mean less range.  Less power does not necessarily mean longer range either.

I’m subtly suggesting the numbers leaked are not correct.  They do not make any sense.  If you have the capability of the EV6 power, that’s the baseline for any vehicle larger than it.

You are correct that a heavier vehicle may require larger battery packs and motors to maintain adequate performance and range. The choice for the smaller batteries and motors in a larger vehicle can be due the costs. or wrong like you said.

It's possible that the KIA EV9 was designed as a more affordable and efficient option, with a focus on range rather than performance, which could explain the smaller battery and motors. However, without more specific information about the EV9 and EV6 we can only guess.

2024 Kia EV9. Range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.  576-horsepower, 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. two battery choices. No brush with the ugly stick either.  ;D

Weirdly blocky styling that somehow works.

Looks like a Borrego taken 100 years in the future. I like it.

First Reviews. It's a huge SUV. Impressive Interior. But yet again only affordable for the very few and not for the masses. And, And. It's a KIA.

For some of these automakers that can't build a reliable internal combustion engine to save their lives (Ford, Kiyundai...etc) EV's are probably a good thing.

The V6 / auto drivetrain in the larger Kyundai SUVs has proven reliable, as well as the little fours / auto in the Accent/Rio twins.

The Rivian R1T weighs about the same, even the  Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is only a bit lighter. It's the batteries. There is going to be a lot more road deaths in future from people being run over.  :-\
