The article does't mention it but the Winnipeg connection is that Colebourn was a Veterinarian with the mounted calvary unit, Fort Gary Horse located in North Winnipeg. Colebourn named the bear after his home city. After the war he came back to Winnipeg and worked as a vet on Croydon Ave. for years. The museum at the McGregor Armoury (Fort Gary Horse) has lots of memorabilia and the whole story.

Train cars carrying propane derail in Emerson

Posted: 9:58 AM | Comments: 0

A train derailment has forced the evacuation of some homes in Emerson this morning.

The mishap occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. near 5th Street East and Taylor Avenue in the southern Manitoba community. RCMP say two cars containing unscented propane came off the tracks.

No leaks were detected and there is no fire. Local fire departments are at the scene.

RCMP indicate 40 people who live within a 100-metre radius of the accident are being evacuated as a precaution.

There are no injuries.

The investigation continues.

That was weird! I just posted a couple of pictures of my new bathroom fan on the diy thread and somehow a picture of some dude I have never seen before appeared in my post instead of one of my chosen pics. Not sure how that happened as I just checked my camera and that photo does not exist.  Wtf happened there?  ???  I'm not drinking yet  either.  Think I need one after that though...:P

My mother gave me $50.00 to buy magazines to read while I'm in the hospital. I can buy the magazines but I must give them to my mother and she will deliver them to me...she says if I keep them, I'll read them before my operation. It will be her job to meter them out to me each day :).

My recollection of my previous stay in the hsopital is that the lingering effects of anesthesia plays havoc with your short term memory. You can read a magazine cover to cover and then completely forgot what you just read! So one magazine will probably keep me occupied for a week .
