Let me spell it out for you before everyone goes on tangent and make it personal (again):

I'm still willing to pay up to $25K for a clean unit, meeting my "must have" criteria. I'm willing to pay a premium of up to $26.5K ($30K tax in) for an exceptionally clean unit meeting all my "must have" and "nice to have" criteria.

These are my criteria and don't really need to justify them. Just take them at the face value. If you still feel the need to judge, feel free.... it would not change anything.

So, on paper, this unit had the potential to be that $26.5K unit, hence I went to see it. To my disappointment, it wasn't exactly what I hopping for once I saw it in person and spoke with the owner.  Still a consideration at the right price.

This purchase is totally different from the previous one so the 328 purchase has no bearing on what I'm looking for now. As such, buying a car from QC is not my first option. Sure, if I miraculously find and exceptionally well maintained car in QC (e.g. rustproofed annually), which checks all the boxes, I would not rejected simply because it's a QC car. Too bad @Slow_Lane doesn't have one for sale.... I would've happily paid the premium despite being a "QC car"   :) Have you seen the condition of his MK1 white Mazda3 Sport when he sold it?

BTW: I would not pass on an exceptional 2016, for an adjusted price of course.

However the one linked (which I'm aware of) is not what I want irrespective of color combo.

There is an even better one, which is local to me, but I do not want the M Sport package. If it wasn't for the M Sport Package, I would've checked it out. Note the price drop from the original asking price.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being picky about colours and options. I'm the same way, and it's partly why we pulled the trigger on the new Mini – it was in a color we really liked and had all the options we wanted.

But, if you're looking for a needle in a haystack, you may have to compromise. Seems to me that a six cylinder X3 without the M sport package is fairly rare to begin with, never mind finding one in the right colour combo.

I'm ok with several color combos not limited to one. I don't want black or silver exterior and black or oyster interior. There's more combinations of what I want vs I don't want. Yes, space grey & mocha is my favorite combo for this car, but not limited to it.

35i are more scarce to begin with, but it is what it is. I have to be patient. As for M Sport, yes there are apparently more available at the moment, but it's not always the case. I've been passively checking the market for these for some time so I know.

I wouldn't mind this one but it's in Calgary....

No response on the offer yet?
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Agreed.  Could also start off by asking a Calgary member to have a look.  There's a few on the board.

Intrigued by this one......

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/bmw/x3/montr%C3%A9al/quebec/19_12837450_/?showcpo=ShowCpo&ncse=no&orup=21_24_27&pc=L4H%203C9&sprx=-1&modalXS=1

Cons:
- black exterior
- QC
- higher km

Pros:
- low asking (may be able to drop to $15K?)
- KEY maintenance done: water pump (the one I would use), valve cover (for this need to replace the whole cover not only gasket), TRANSMISSION fluid at 100K (almost no one does this since BMW "lifetime" BS hence why I want one with max 90K km)
- New Michelin winter/summer on BMW wheels (what I would do)
- CarPlay & AA (this is bonus)
- Rotors look rust free on the hub so may be relatively recent
- Seems like it was taken care of by owner who knows the car
- Service history (so it says in the add)

Question mark: accident free?

Which one was that?  The one originally listed at $30?

Lol, my first thought.

Well, look on the bright side, maybe Hire will sell you a fully sorted vehicle for not much more than your offer.

That's not bad. Are any of the cons deal breakers?

In theory, if the maintenance and condition checks out, it wouldn't for the price, but needs more info and need to see the car.... Big ticket maintenance items done outweighs the higher mileage in my book. Add two sets of new Michelin tires on OEM wheels ($3000+ for tires alone) and it gets even better.

Looks real nice. 1st owner??? The house and property looks nice. Good reflection on owner of car. Private sale so you save some tax. High Kms would concern me. But ask owner about his driving. Maybe a lot of it was long distance highway cruising.
