Looks better and better.

The roofline when the roof is raised is very elegant, and remeniscent of the Benz SL coupe. Almost delicate and light looking. Very neat.

OK, please help me out here experts.

The C70 is a hard top convertible that is based on the S40 platform.
And the VW concept-C is also a hard top convertible that is based on the Jetta or was it the Passat platform?

And these 2 vehicles will be going head to head against each other for the same market share?

Does the Peugeot 206 fall in the same category with the above 2?

Was the SLK the first to have a power controlled hard top convertible or the Mitsubishi 3000GT?
Or did someone make something even earlier?

The VW should slide in just under the C70.

Prob $39-44Gs or so to start I'd imagine.

But who knows. Starts production in January and doesn't arrive here till the spring, so by then anything could happen. Mr Bernhard is trying to cheapen up all the VWs and delayed the debut of the Beduin b/c he thinks it'll cost too much to build as-is.

I'm not looking forward to the cheapening. Hopefully it's done right.

The VW convertible will be based on the new Passat and is aimed directly at the Mercedes convertible with the hard top (I don'T remember which model). At least, that's what the sales manager at my dealership told me the other day. I'm sure it'll be a direct competitor to this new C70 too.

Means we'll be super lucky to see it at $49,995 here. More like $52+ I would imagine, depending on equipment. In the comments section, people were saying they build theirs at the Volvo site and adding leather and HIDs, etc pushed it above $45Gs US.

Volvo prices the C70

The 2006 Volvo C70 will start at about $39,880, including $695 for destination, Volvo announced last week. The hardtop convertible, which launched at Frankfurt earlier this year, is scheduled to begin selling in the U.S. market in May. Out of the 16,000 units Volvo expects to sell, U.S. sales are hoped to count for 8,000 of them. The vehicle will put out 242 hp with its high-pressure turbocharged 2.5L 5-cylinder engine or 197 with the low pressure version.

I'm on the US www.designyourvolvo.com site and only see the C70 T5 218hp version. And I thought that would be the only engine for the time being.

My C70 comes to $43,800, and the only large options I didn't select were Auto, NAVI, and leather.

The VW EOS will have to slip into the low $30's up to the Volvo price for the 280hp 3.6L.
