Test drove the 2014 today and sat down with sales guy. I like it a lot, and the reason it is so low mileage (15000 kms) is an older couple returned a lease early so she could get one with a remote open liftgate (one uses a walker). So it's a fairly rare low km 2014.

Looking at putting the whole thing, lien payout and purchase, on line of credit at 3.2%, and paying it down fairly aggressively. taking overnight to think it over.

priced out the 2016's they have in stock, same model (EX) as the 2014, price is much higher of course, kind of puts the payments out of reach for me despite the clearance discounts. I know it's a 2 year newer car etc. but this 2014 is very low km, still a year newer than my Matrix, and I will keep it a long time.

Seems like a more sensible way to go.

Agreed.  The CR-V should be a nice upgrade from the Matrix.

Sent my daughter and son in law to same dealer and salesman for an Odyssey van. They have a 2 year old, baby on the way, and a dog so they want a minivan. Got a decent deal, and doesn't close for a month, in case Honda interest rate goes down in March. They are debating whether to get a vehicle protection package called final Coat, being offered by the dealer.

http://www.finalcoat.com/index.html

My experience has always been Krown rustproofing is great, and whenever i have asked about extra protection and extended warranties on this forum I get told no don't get anything extra. But just wondering about interior protection, for the seats, since they have 2 kids (soon), and the older one just had a car sick episode that still smells a bit in the old car. Any ideas on fabric protection for  new vehicle?

Hope i get some hits here, i didn't want to start a new thread. CRV is going great so far.

Krown yes

Other crap no. If you really want you can just buy some stuff from Crappy Tire. Or you know those $25 car seat protector things off Amazon.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

Interior pritection is usually just 3m scotchgard type fabric spray.   It wears out so i dont thin it provides long term benefit.

Tell your Daughter to NOT get any protection package, be it interior or exterior, from the Dealership.

Btw, congrats on the CRV!

we used to use final coat... pretty basic stuff. nothing that is any better than ordering a couple cans of scotchguard off amazon (i couldn't find it at crappy tire last time i looked)... in fact, you applying it would likely be much better than the clean up kid spraying the other stuff... they don't tend to take the pride in the application.

do have to ask... why does the deal not "close" for a month? i don't know many dealers that won't try to get the deal written asap.

i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

I wasn't there, but the sales guy is pretty laid back, sold my wife her Civic in 2012 and me the CRV just now. Apparently told daughter and son in law interest rate is 1.9% now, they can wait till march 1 and see if it drops. Took a $500 deposit from them. They said he must feel  confident of the sale.

What happens if it goes up?

The 60mth rate is 1.99% (2%). Honda/Acura never round off to a 0.  Customers never hear the last "digit".  :)

It won't move on March 1st.

I assume like a mortgage, they get the current rate or lower if it goes down, but not if it goes up. I think they were told it might go to 0.9%, which I believe my wife's 2012 Civic was purchased at.

I once worked at a dealership and "applied" the protection packages.  Exterior protection was a 3oz bottle of paint protection type wax.  Interior protection was a can of Scotchguard.  Cost thousands.

when you buy those, you are buying the warranty, not the product...it's why i refuse that stuff and took my car to OilGard instead.
