Funny, I drove through way more roadside checks in BC than I have in Ontario. And keep in mind that it's an online poll - not exactly scientific.

They also say Ontario has the safest roads in North America...

Use Trapster when driving on the 401. The app never shuts up. Every few kilometers 'Known enforcement point ahead... Known enforcement point ahead'. OPP loves setting up speed traps.

There are legitimate enforcement zones where I welcome the speed cops, places where speeding is stupid and dangerous -- like my congested residential neighborhood with its elementary schools, retirement home and kiddie playgrounds. Ticket away, officers, with my blessing.
Then there are actual speed traps, in locations chosen to raise ticket revenues and fill quotas.  These are usually set up where there's a good place to hide the cruiser with a view of a safe, wide-open road where drivers are likely to break the artificially low speed limit. They have nothing to do with safety.

i got a ticket at this odd place in toronto by the airport... i was totally lost, the road sloped down into a valley, then right back up. i accelerated from the stop light in order to get over a lane to make a turn and a cop shot out to pull me over... he was sitting in a driveway hidden behind a wall aimed right at the base of the slope...

right where your vehicle would be at its fastest point... ass!

another by my house, speed limit goes from 50 -80... its a fully divided road, so 80 makes sense. the 50 is because its near a university. they wait right at the transition point pulling over people who accelerated too soon on the one side and who didn't slow down fast enough on the other.... such balls. has nothing to do with safety. at no point should the limit of a road change that drastically!

On my last trip to B.C.  I got off the plane, drove out of the airport and was stopped at a road side check.

In Germany sometimes you need to slow down from 220-250 to 120 or 100. Feel bad for the brakes but you get it done. Speed limits should change otherwise the 80 zone will become a 50 zone and not the other way around.

suppose thats true... they just need to have a buffer zone... a 500m area on either side (if not a km) that is a no ticket area. hell, for a 100 change, i'd want a couple kms at least!

I'm pretty sure when the speed changes to a lower number there is a sign stating "50kph Ahead" and then you see the 50kph sign.  As for speeding up, don't do it until after the new sign, how difficult is that?

fair enough... i'd prefer not to have people hammering the gas right at the sign, or slowing down to 30 below the limit prior to the area though. so you think ticketing a guy going 80, 5 feet past the changed limit is cool? the guy was maybe going 92 in the 80... generally accepted speed.. let off the gas at the warning... still 30 over in the 50 zone though, so 180 bucks and 4 points demerit...

Nah... coast from 100 in the 80 to 60-70 in the 50. No need for brakes. Not saying what the cops are doing is cool, but 92 in a 50 is not cool either.

fair enough. the 50 in this case shouldn't be a 50... its a four lane road with a divider in the middle and appropriate shoulders. its built lilke a highway with a 50kmph limit. but i see your point. i wouldn't want that kind of speeding in a proper 50 zone.
