My boys had their ball hockey finals this morning, both playing for for 1st overall. The Pee Wee's lost, so they got silver and the Bantams won & got the gold.

The kid handily passed her road test today and now has a full-fledged license.  And I get a full-fledged insurance bill.  That part isn't making me happy...

Wow!!  She'd need 2-3 tries in Ontario...plus you'd have even higher insurance.

Feel happy with that nugget of truth!   ;D

My broker DID say "be thankful you're not in Ontario."  Did you call her, ron?   :rofl2:

The bill isn't heart stopping, $2500/yr, but on the high side for a new driver.  The reason is that we carry a lot of liability ($3M) and other non-car related benefits.  We could have saved quite a bit by reducing coverage and by adding her to our policy, but we registered the Subaru to her and she has her own policy.  The bet effect of those things we pay more, but sleep better - worth it to me.

I called around, and even with the most basic coverage, the cheapest I could find was about $2200 for her to have her own policy.  All other companies went past $2500 once we increased the coverage to what we have with our current company.

A new driver in the GTA would be about min $400
She would classified as principle driver on one car since you would have 3 cars and 3 drivers in the family

I've got 2 going into high school next year and one in their last year.

Then I look at some new grey hair and I drown my sorrows with beer.

I only have gray in my beard.

It's nice to hear from proud parents, congrats to them. Some sharp looking kids for sure.

Well...if we're bragging on our kids... ;D - my gr 11 boy got the highest marks in his class/school so got the Gold in the Under-Grad awards (I think it was like $50 - used to be more).  Just over 95% overall average.  The little Asian girl said to him on stage (jokingly, but in a competitive jokingly manner) "I'll get you next year!"  :stick: (she's really cute & sweet...so it's funny...he got her by 2%).  So following in his brothers footsteps...maybe he'll get the big scholarship next year too.  Just has to keep his grades higher than hers!

Is it cheaper since she is a girl?  This plays a huge role in Ontario.  Glad we had our daughter first.  Planning on using my daughter as the principle driver, and my son as the occasional driver.  They can split the total bill, so it doesn't really matter to me.  But this is over 10 years away....

^^^ Gender pricing gap is small now.

We didn't buy her driving training as I wasn't impressed at all with what I saw and I was shocked at the cost for what you got.  The discount for driver training?  $55/year.   ::)

The road test was ridiculous.  20 min in a residential neighbourhood with emphasis on parallel and hill parking.  FFS.  She could have breezed through it ages ago but I'm so glad she waited until she can actually drive independently.

Not sure how this varies in Ontario.  But I suspect it's still a gap, based on gender.  Also, big difference if you don't get the driver training.  I took it just for the insurance discount.
