Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust System
« on: February 25, 2017, 03:40:58 pm »
Anyone here with experience with Magnaflow exhaust systems?  I'm looking at either the Touring or Sports Series for the '08 TT Quattro 3.2 VR6.  Listened to a couple of clips on YouTube and they sound awesome but I wonder how well they fit vs. OE.

My big V-8 builds always breathed through MagnaFlow exhausts.  We'd mandrel bend the tubes and then use MagnaFlow mufflers.  On the dyno, nothing else came close for less loss and great sound too.

I can't speak to fit as we'd always custom bent the rest of the system, but if their fit is thought out like the performance, it will be excellent.  Their products always left me impressed.

Funny you should ask!  I've bought several and even have hooked up several people in this forum with the brand.  Because I have a deal with a distributor when I used to race.

All the ones I've owned fit as OEM. One needed tiny adjustment to center the tips in the exhaust cut out. I think I did a small write up on the forum for the one I had on my IS350 complete with video. I loved it on my IS. I really like the price vs quality of these.

They generally sound deep and bassy. Not high pitched and shrill.

I'll check with my contact and see what he can do for price.

Had a series 50 muffler on my old red truck and that sounded amazing. Rumbly at idle, aggressive at WOT and not a bit of drone at cruise. Highly recommend them.

I have a Magnaflow on the van. it's actually quieter than when I bought it.  :rofl2: To be fair there was a wee hole in the muffler that got replaced. It sounded like "Ontario farm truck". The Magnaflow is quiet but still has a nice V8 undertone. I've both glass packed (Cherry Bombs) and straight piped the van but went back to the Magnaflow.

I have one for the Olds too. It has a nice rumble but I wanted MORE rumble so it's in my shed and the Olds is straight piped now.  :rofl2:

It did have a nice tone though and no drone at all.

Thanks guys!  I can get the MagnaFlow cat-back exhaust for <$900 from a distributor in Toronto, http://www.tdotperformance.ca  Nice to hear that it fits well.  It won't be DIY job in any case, but I want everything to fit just like OE.

Yes.  Still lifetime warranty.  And thank you for offering to check your contact about the price!!  I would be looking at the Touring series I think.

Also, look on Youtube. LOTS of stuff there including comparisons between Magnaflows vs Flowmaster etc. Apparently theyhave two different sounds. All I know is the Magnaflow had a nice sound that gave me what I wanted which was to sound like a xcop car from some 60s movie. lol. My wife says it sounded like "The CAR" when I'd start it with a bit of throttle when she came out of work. The it's settle into that nice throb. Same now, just louder. :rofl2:.

Oh c'mon...why not?  It's fun! (not much) And easy! (at least the 2nd one was) And it's probably not cold when you'd do it.  (we did it at Christmas - wasn't terribly cold, but it would've been nicer in spring)

I have a Magnaflow cat-back on the 84 Camaro, only system that lasted more than 3 years on that car, anything short of stainless steel would dissolve in a couple of years. Sounds great and fit great from what I can recall.
My Sonoma has a Magnaflow hi-flow CAT, replaced a failed OE CAT and has been working great for years. Never an Emission test issue, and it seemed to wake the truck up a little bit.

Only negative experience was installing on a 350Z roadster build at work. Had to "clearance" one of the pipes that was interfering with something (i can't even remember what) under the car, and then centering the tips really sucked - some modification required, and still never got them 100%.

Got the itch now after hearing the sport exhaust on your brother's Cayman?
