Glad that both Volt and Prius Prime are competing for buyers.

Having experienced the 2017 Volt in person a few weeks ago, it's a credible ride and has excellent technology for the price.

The Prime offers something a bit different looks wise than the Volt, not sure if that will sell or anti-sell, but it's nice to have a range of options to plug-in.

In talking to someone looking, they dismissed the Prime for looks alone, even though I explained the improvements to the plugin (range, tech), there were no other reasons to dismiss, just a preference on looks.  They drive a Toyota now, so are positive on the brand, and looked at the RAV4 Hybrid, and will be checking out the Volt next.

I know in the US, particularly CA that the Prime is significantly cheaper..in the thousands.  So that would play a role.

Not sure what pricing will be here yet.

Remove the Ontario GOV subsidy and these vehicles are history.  It will happen in slightly less than 1 1/2 years.

You think if the Prius Prime was $30K CDN with no incentives it wouldn't sell?

Which Prime ?   The base is crap for the money charged .  The next one up with a heated seat and big centre screen is $$38,700 converted from US pricing.  Add the $1800 Freight and we are looking at $40K CDN.  (finance rate is another story).

I disagree.  For 10% more than the price of the standard Prius, you get heated seats, navigation, sat radio and a couple other items in the "base" Prime.

Yes.  Like you, I think Toyota Canada will fack it up.  In the USA, Prime is only 10% more than normal Prius.  If that's the case here, base Prime would be $30K.

I won't hold my breath.

Wow, very different here. I easily see 5 to 10 Volts everyday, plus a couple Tesla and Leaf.

I have yet to see a Volt or Leaf here and maybe a handful of Teslas.
Lighten up Francis.....

According to reliable sources the 2018 Prime would get a 14 kWh battery and would would see it's EV range go from 40 to 80 km. That is Volt like range + a more efficient engine. :)

That would be perfect for my needs. That also gives me a year to work on the wife to like one (currently she doesn't).

I've seen a few Leafs blowing around the valley, and a few Volts (saw one yesterday,) and see the same tesla almost every day. There are surprisingly a few teslas that I see quite regularly.

Review from owner of previous generation Prius plug-in.

Quote
While a significant improvement over its predecessor the Prius Plug-in, the Prime’s internal combustion engine continues to turn on unpredictably and it cannot function as a complete car without gasoline.

And yet (as pointed out in another thread), where I live, a Prius is more efficient than an EV like the Smart Electric.

I've seen your US power generation examples, but isn't the OPG grid fairly green, in terms of CO2 anyway?

Looks like 97.4% of power generated in the last 48 hours in Ontario came from nuclear(54.5%), hydro(28.3%) and wind(14.6%).

https://www.cns-snc.ca/media/ontarioelectricity/ontarioelectricity.html

That's pretty squeaky clean, as far as CO2

I was talking efficiency (cost to fuel)...not pollution.

Indeed...Ontario is very clean.

That's not efficiency, that's part of driving costs. What are you pricing a kWh of electricity, including delivery and taxes, at overnight rate for example?
