The Tesla was in autopilot mode

Brutal.  I guess he was one of the Elon disciples who thought Tesla had a flawless system. Isn’t that the lie Elon is selling everyone?
Latest ranking shows Autopilot last amongst semi autonomous driving systems....

Unless its a late aprils fool joke, Autopilot is still dangerous on the same stretch of the road  :o (video)

I still can't believe these idiots are that trusting of this system to let it have full control.

I'm still waiting for someone to build  an affordable electric motorcycle. If the Zero bikes were reliable and @$10k that would be perfect.

Tesla Q1 bullet points.

-Tesla’s Q1 unit sales were flat compared to 4Q: 29,980 compared with 29,967. However, you have to look at the mix and compare with the promises and guidance.

-Model S and X combined were 21,800, down 23.3% from 28,425 last quarter. Those are the products with positive gross margin.

-Model 3, which carries negative gross margin, fell well short of the 13,800 consensus estimate, at only 8,180 units sold. That’s a miss of more than 40%.

-Tesla stated on February 21 that Model S and X were seeing an increase in demand. Considering a 23.3% sales decline, make of that statement what you wish.

-This 21% miss on the unit top line ought to mean that we will see reductions in analyst estimates in the coming hours.

I'd also expect..given all this...Tesla shows a quarterly loss of $800M-$1B !

and the share price is up 6% because the headline was model 3 increases production by 40% since last quarter......

I'm quite convinced that no Tesla slappy has every read a quarterly financial from the company....or understood what they were reading.

This video linked by Autoweek is pretty interesting. It shows another Tesla owner driving the same highway stretch where the Model X crash occured, again on AutoPilot. Before the driver intervenes, Autopilot is sending the car right unto the crash barrier again. At least, it's consistent.

The system seems to be confused not only by the markings, but also by the construction joints in the concrete slab.

That certainly makes them useless in NB.

But it gives Tesla a great opportunity to blame the DOT for not painting the lines well enough for thei cars to work.

AV's can't just go bezerk when there's a pavement crack, a construction joint or whatnot. Plus, in Great White North, our markings are pretty much eroded at winter's end and it's still too cold to re-stripe.

makes for the case....drive your own damn car

Autopilot is far..............far away from being road-ready, and this accident proves it. Should not be on the road unless it can work in a snowstorm and on broken pavement in the rain etc. - you know, real roads.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

You say that but Teslas do.  Straight into a concrete divider.

^^ For non-Montrealers, that Chinese BYD CUV is wearing Montreal's standard (but optional) taxi colours.

I rode in that electric school bus at the Transport Canada track. They are now in service in many jurisdictions - short runs twice a day, perfect application of EV tech!

Corolla PHEV debuts in China. These would sell like hot cakes here, much better styling thant the Prius Prime IMHO.

The more I think about it, I’ve realized full BEVs are not reasonable alternatives to ICE vehicles. Ridiculous charging times and even more ridiculous price points.

Read my review of the Clarity once it pops up on Trader - that's all I'll say for now  ;)
