Picked it up today. 2015 Forester XT Touring, satin pearl white but can't really tell from these pictures. My wife seems really happy with it, she seems to like it a lot more than the GLI. Exterior shots only, didn't think to take any interior yet.

Had someone come look at the KTM today, but alas no sale.

Back to the cars. Out with the old:

Congrats!

Why the switch? Anything wrong with the GLI or time for a change?

Nice, I like the hi-po mainstream car thing. (GLI + Forester XT)

Thanks everybody  :D
My wife really likes it so far, but she's only driven it 2 or 3 times since we got it.

Initial impressions (some similar to the test drive):
  • overall it is quieter than the GLI; this might be attributable to that "soundaktor" that VAG is using to create a synthetic engine sound, however road noise is quieter too so either tires or sound deadening
  • CVT is quite livable with in sedate driving, they've programmed it to have "gears" rather than a continuous drone.
  • CVT in S# mode, I haven't started to drive enthusiastically yet so no opinion
  • I miss the steering wheel from the GLI
  • I miss the seat side bolstering from the GLI
  • wife prefers this driving position to the GLI
  • the boy prefers this to the GLI, better visibility, higher up
  • visibility out this greenhouse is fantastic
  • I like the power liftgate, sure there's no foot sensor under the rear bumper however I can think to push a button on the key fob while I walk up to the vehicle pushing my shopping cart
  • the paint quality seems cheap, hard to explain but the GLI seemed like it had "better" paint

Way back when, we had an Outback Wagon, and then the missus test drove a Forester and said "this thing has an awesome seating position and the visibility is fantastic!"  We then sold the OBW and found her a Forester.  Regardless of year, the Forester has been a very nice vehicle in terms of the greenhouse and ability to place the car.  It's one reason I see so many women driving them.
