I finally pulled the trigger on a BMC Teammachine SLR01 Ultegra MY 2016 like the one in the picture below. Now I'll have to face the agonizing wait for a week or two before I take delivery. Excited to join quadzilla in the BMC squad!

Amazing how I can like you and hate you at the same time.  ;D

Congrats on such a great bike. Can't wait to hear some thought about it after you get some good miles in with it.

The SLR01 DuraAce is still for sale at the bike/coffee shop we ride to. And just today I stopped at another bike shop in a small town and they have a used Kona Rove Ti (disc) built up with DA for $3K.  I resisted the temptation to ride it. Been wanting a Ti bike for longer fun and gravel rides.

Thanks! :) Aren't I great ;D There's always a chance that something will go wrong with my order and I won't be a proud owner of a brand spanking new BMC and you don't have to hate me ;D

I know what you mean about Ti bikes. I went for a gravel century ride recently and one of the guys in the group had one and I couldn't help wondering how comfortable it must have to ride that thing and yet he was having fun blasting it up the hills or whatever every once in a while. Lately I've been drooling over Firefly and Moots Ti bikes like this:

Man that is definitely no-fun, I read about carbon being brittle but was hoping it wasn't true  :-\
Perhaps I don't need that Giant XTC ADV+SS I posted up above...

Watch any crash in a pro race and see how many get back up and still ride their bikes to the end. I'm not saying carbon doesn't get damaged but I don't think there is anything to worry about. Besides, I can tell lots of stories about guys with aluminum bikes getting damaged beyond repair.

Thanks! :) Aren't I great ;D There's always a chance that something will go wrong with my order and I won't be a proud owner of a brand spanking new BMC and you don't have to hate me ;D

That Moots looks incredible. Love those.

I'm all over the map for what bike I want next. One day it is about replacing the BMC with a Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 and the next I want to replace my Cannondale with a descent "all-road" type bike.  Since I can only have two bikes, it makes it harder to decide.

I met up with a guy that is going to cycle the Dempster Hwy and had a new bike built for him by True North (famous frame builder in my area). Really cool setup as he spec'd everything out himself.  Ti frame, 14 speed Roloff hub, and that cool suspension fork (forget what it is called). This thing is going to be a beast on that trip.

I can't claim to be drooling, exactly, but I think the new Mercurio makes for a pretty nice gravel grinder at a fairly reasonable (for Pinarello) price point.

Of course my existing bike handles rail trails just fine...

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

In reality it depends a lot on your age and flexibility. if you suffer back pains, have trouble getting into the drops, mainly tour on the bike; or if you need a ton of spacers and a rising stem, then an endurance type is probably better.

I'm 60 and I have done 135 km rides on a S-Works Tarmac which is as racing as it gets; and I'm not the most flexible person around..

But probably my next road bilke will be an endurance type, the new Roubaix being on top of the list.

Very nice, (belated) congratulations! The Defy is a highly rated bike, always wanted to try one of them myself.

I fixed up my current bike for the riding season. I scored a new back rim (along with a couple tires) off Kijiji for free. My old back rim had a worn out bearing and was making the rim wobble as it turned. Back bakes need a minor adjustment and I think it is good to go for a while yet. If I manage to score some used parts I may have a good at fixing the front gears but it works well as a 5spd. Pretty good for a bike I bought for used $50 years ago and likely has somewhere in the neighborhood of 15k kms on it. My wife bought a brand new bike for $400 around the same time she has maybe 10kms on it.  :rofl2:

That looks very nice. When you get it will be interested in some feedback. Wish these were around when I took the Mrs to Moab many years ago.

I tried one on the streets around th bike shop. Very nice. 3 levels of assistance and the 3 are fully tunable through an app. ECo .64, Trail 1.6 and Turbo 3.2X the rider input. This means that if you give it 100 Watts in Trail mode the assist will add 160 Watts for a total of 260 at the crank! Maximum output of 530W from the motor!  :o

With some sand on the streets the rear wheel wanted to spin on turbo!

My wife is not convinced, she is concerned it will be too heavy on tight trails and will take out the weightlesness experience out of riding a very light bike. She could be right.. this is close to a 50 lbs bike.

Will have to wait for the trails to clear so she can actually try it on her preferred trails.

Good deals going on now. Found a 2017 left-over, $2K off + $700 of free accessories from Specialized.

I've only ridden one e-assist but that was easily over 6 years ago. My mechanic in Toronto built up his city bike with assist and the push from the motor was awesome. Can only imagine how much better things are now.

Will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the weight vs handling on tighter trails. Have a feeling that the extra power will quickly make it an easier decision.

That Specialized comes with 200mm rotors, wow. But I guess you would want that on a serious mtn bike like that. Some nice discounts sure do make it tempting though.

On a different level, I also ride with a social group for fun and two of the people (70 years old but very active) just bought e-bikes. They are the first to make the move and will be interesting to see if it pushes anybody else with similar strengths to follow after seeing how much of a difference it makes.
