Wondering if the type of roof material makes a difference in whether it beads or not?

Maybe that is the case here. I have no idea. Here are some pictures. Looks nice, black and clean but not waterproof.

I've only used the product I recommended...so I have no idea about the beading.

Which product did you use again?

I was asking Slow_Lane (my bad, should have been more clear), but yeah my experience with 303 on boat tops and ski wear suggests that it beads like crazy.

The outside fabric is not designed to be water proof.  It's the middle layer that you can't see that is the water proof part.  This applies to woven tops.  The woven tops require that the middle layer dry out.  Don't attempt to seal the outside woven layer.  All you can do is condition it.

That's definitely not across the board.

Porsche tops are fabric/canvas and Porsche recommends (and sells) a waterproofing product for it.

I wonder what his owners/maintenance says about his top in particular?

What company supplies Porsche tops?  Find out that and then you find out what it's made out of.  Then you can find out how to treat it if it even needs it.

I posted a question about this on a Fiat 500 forum to see if other owners had similar experience when treating their tops. Lots of lookies but no responses yet.
