Meguair's Ultimate Compound worked for me
« on: November 29, 2020, 11:13:22 am »
My 2015 Kia Forte 5 had problem with paint oxidizing on the rear spoiler about hatch. It started after about 4 years and just kept getting worse. It was pretty bad and very disappointing for what I considered a pretty new car. I have seen the same problem on some Elantras of same vintage. I suspect it is related to the fact that the spoiler is plastic. I approached KIA for help but they said it was beyond warranty.

I tired a few products I had around the garage to fix it. Waxes, compound and scratch removers. Some of the efforts made the spoiler look great but the results only lasted a few days and signs of oxidation would come back.

So few weeks ago I bought some Meguair's Ultimate Compound. I applied and worked it by hand using an application sponge and some cloths. I did not have a machine to do it. As the problem was just on the plastic spoiler it was very doable.

It took a little elbow grease but I am really happy with the results. The oxidation is gone. I waited a while before posting results just in case the oxidation would re-appear. It has been at least 3 weeks and it is still perfect.

Really happy with this product and the results. I would recommend it.

I do not have before pictures. I brought car directly to Kia to show them the paint issue. I never took pictures.

When I posted this last year you wanted pictures. Well I just waxed my car today and took pictures of the spoiler that was quite badly oxidized before using the Meguair's Ultimate Compound. Really pleased with the results. Here are shots after today's waxing.

*** UPDATE ***

Sadly after a summer in the sun all the oxidation is coming back and spreading. Looks like using compound was only a temporary fix. The spoiler is plastic and paint on that part is failing while rest of car is OK.

Maybe need to remove spoiler and get it re-painted.

I'd hit it again with the compound, then top with a ceramic topper/sealer wax or similar.
