2021 GENESIS G80
« on: February 19, 2020, 08:20:54 pm »
https://www.carscoops.com/2020/02/genesis-g80-to-debut-in-geneva-automaker-says-dont-count-on-it/

"The redesigned Genesis G80 has been plagued by delays and it appears that a report about the car debuting in Geneva was false.

The rumor started earlier today when the The Korean Car Blog claimed the 2021 G80 would go into production later this month and be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show.

We were obviously a bit skeptical as Genesis vehicles aren’t sold in Europe and officials have previously suggested a European launch was a couple of years away. If that wasn’t questionable enough, Genesis isn’t listed on the press conference schedule for Geneva.

That being said, a report in December indicated Genesis could have a presence at this year’s show. Given these discrepancies we reached out to Genesis Motor America and they suggested the brand won’t be in Geneva. “As I understand from my colleagues in Korea, Genesis won’t be in Geneva this year,” a Genesis spokesman from the U.S. told CarScoops.

Regardless of when and where the G80 debuts, it will have a lot in common with all-new GV80. Engine options are slated to be shared between the vehicles and this means the US-spec model should have a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder developing 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS).  It should be joined by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 developing more than 370 hp (276 kW / 375 PS).

In other markets, we can expect a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel with 274 hp (204 kW / 278 PS) and 434 lb-ft (589 Nm) of torque. The diesel could help Genesis crack into the European market, where German luxury brands dominate.

Genesis hasn’t said much about the G80, but previous spy photos have shown the model will have a prominent crest grille which is flanked by so-called “quad” lighting units. The sedan will also feature streamlined bodywork, quad taillights and crest-shaped exhaust tips.

Spy photographers haven’t gotten close enough to snap interior pictures, but the cabin could echo the one in the GV80. If that’s the case, we can expect premium leather upholstery, wood trim and metallic accents. Other highlights could include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment system."

Exhaust tips will do the same for you  :P  Wheels are "shopped" in from the current 2018-2020 G80.

From what I've seen on video, the Hyundai's GV80 appears fantastic.  However, I think they are doomed on their Genesis sedans.  Too little, too late for the luxo sedan buyer.

No doubt GV80 is in the hot segment and should sell well if priced right, in relation to the RX. The G80/G70 simply complete the portfolio for Genesis, especially if they still aspire to become an independent from Hyundai luxury brand.

IMO, I don't think there exists a need to balance a portfolio.  Seems like resources misplaced.  So far their sedans have not caught on.

Dang!  :o  I think it looks pretty damned sweet even in the renders.

Coming back from the airport the other night I got into a 2014 Lexus ES Hybrid. I asked the driver what the mileage was on it and he said "it's coming up to 1 million kilometers"! It had the motor replaced 200,000 kilometers ago.

Did he say if it was the original hybrid battery ?
The last time I was at YYZ 90% of the limousine were hybrids

I think Hyundai don't want to invest in development of a proper hybrid powertrain and don't feel like paying Toyota for their PSD unit. Instead, this car will likely be offered as a full BEV, in a couple of years.  Aside from that the exterior is gorgeous IMO and inside the only thing I'd hate is the steering wheel..  ::) How difficult is it to make a classic 3 spoke design?

I see an unoriginal design with copycat styling cues.

That being said, it it pretty.
it looks like an A7 (or close enough for the "copycat" comment), so i agree with what you're saying.

A7 and that Cadillac Escala concept in the roofline. Some details scream Aston to me (the rear). The grill and steering wheel are the only hard dislikes for me, other than that its a pretty sweet looking sedan.

Very, very close:
