Posted this already, but this was the thinking behind the purchase:
Been looking for something more modern to replace my old Vibe for some time now, and once I figured out 8 ft lumber seems to be haulable https://www.reddit.com/r/subaru/comments/7nodpn/hauling_lumber_in_a_crosstrek/ the Crosstrek was on the list
Maverick hybrid AWD (N/A)
Rav4 Prime (not taking orders)
Rav4 hybrid (1 yr wait, cablegate)
Rav4 regular LE (6 month wait, not very special)
Corolla Cross (6 month wait, too tinny)
Corolla Cross hybrid (promising, but N/A yet)
Mazda CX-5 (likely a wait too, more importantly wife no like)
Lexus UX (hybrid, Lexus great mileage, and avail in two months, but...expensive, low, limited hauling ability)
Lexus 450e plug in (plug in, reasonable size, Lexus, but....more expensive yet, 1 year wait, limited hauling)
Subaru Crosstrek/Forester/Outback
-surprisingly all similar pricing, feature for feature, comparing a mid grade Crosstrek to a basic trim Forester or Outback. Saw a Crosstrek as a natural successor to the Vibe in spirit, but could have done with either of the three
-the big problem was nothing was available new in stock. Local dealers gave between 4 and 7 months for a Crosstrek, 6 for a Forester, and 9 for a base Outback
So a lot of it was if we could find anything in stock, and oddly enough the one that we found (eventually) was my preferred choice, option level, color, etcDropped into a dealer 3 weeks ago on impulse and test drove a Crosstrek Sport, liked it
Convinced the wife it was a good idea, did some phoning around, found out that what Subaru dealers show as available online is a big fat lie
After plenty of 'nope, nothing, just put your order in and hope, why are you even trying, nobody has nothing' happened on a dealer 8 hrs away in a different province that chirped up 'No, we don't have that vehicle anymore, but we have two others in stock'. And for list price, which with an (inexplicable) Subaru discount meant it was over $1700 cheaper than a 2023
Snapped it up and got it put on a truck
If anyone remembers the last time we bought a vehicle it took 3 years, so this is moving pretty quick
