Tornado in Lincoln Nebraska on 04-26-2024. Dash-cam in parking lot.

https://youtu.be/MTGHQphn_Ys?si=-NGDEIm9h5Yc2iq-

That is insane how those things work.

Had a friend who moved down to Texas, and she too found the locals very blase about them. They found it remarkable though she didn't worry about driving in minus 40 back in Manitoba.

'Can't you die if you break down on the highway?'

'Well, you CAN, but not usually'

They seemed to feel the same way about tornados. The local she moved in with didn't even have a shelter, and he lived in a trailer at the time.  :D

The chances of taking a direct hit from a Tornado are probably about as high as dying in your car on the highway at -40C.

Yeah, funny how a new threat seems worse to people than the ones they are used too. Travelled with some Australians in the Rockies that were positively terrified of bears, whereas I'm sure they saw poisonous snakes as just something you run over with the lawnmower

Most of the deaths in Edmonton's tornado of 87 happened in the Evergreen trailer park, followed by refinery row.

Tornadoes scare me though. And lightning.

Flight time was extended as the pilot had to make a route around the storms, but we landed safely around 12:30am and got deboarded before the storm rolled into the area. We got lucky I think as all we ended up getting was a fairly average thunderstorm, but further north towards Nashville they got it a lot worse, huge hail and some tornados.

Glad you got off light Firm, some of these cells have been brutal. My sister in Charlotte NC has been without power for 2 days.  Think the city took a :censor: kicking from big t-storms.

I witnessed more than a few of those crazy thunderstorms that hit the deep south.  Worst was in Atlanta when I pent 3 weeks there for work in the mid 90s.  They had record floods at the time and the rain was ridiculous at times.  Went from dry ground to raging streams in minutes.

Friday night could see the best display of northern lights in a couple decades.  I'll be heading outside the city later for a look.

My youngest just sent me these, he's camping an hour & a bit east of the city this weekend.

At least the smoke is gone for now. We had a really bad day there last week.

Looks like at least some moisture is finally getting to the places that need it up north
