Behind the four will be Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT, which on certain trims will feature paddle shifters and seven virtual gears to choose from. There was no mention made of a manual transmission, which means it’s likely there will not be one available.

Hopefully this is not true.

The Impreza looks more and more boring every year.  Ugh.

yawn

give me the bugeye WRX any day over this beige-fest. Hey, wasn't that their add campaign? Ironic in light of this?

looks like a Hyundai

modern car design makes me depressed - everything looks the same and that same is very, very boring.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

It's boring as hell, but that's what sells and keeps them afloat in this market, I suppose.

The interior looks much better that current gen in photos.

Hatch looks better than sedan. Call me biased.

The hatch looks better to me as well.  The taillights are too big for the sedan's smaller rear end.

Just like the Legacy and Outback, which are CVT-only in the US but offer manuals in Canada.

What is it that Jacob says?  "BWAARP!  Wrong!!" ...or something...

The Impreza does not have forward collision avoidance. EyeSight also adds steering line display in the back-up camera, adaptive cruise, and lane assist.
Eyesight includes forward collision avoidance/mitigation.

In terms of styling, the exterior rear looks like the previous gen Camry - all batty.  I personally don't care.  If it has all the features I want in an econobox, then it's all good by me.

I'm a bit anxious to give 'er a drive... I love the way that Subarus drive and a whole new platform may totally change it.

... Or it may be totally better. +zanax.

looks quite bigger when you add width and length but lower it... not my favourite design, but unoffensive.

only question... what is a "CVT and parking boots with contrasting red stitching"? isn't a parking boot the thing they use to lock up your wheel when you park illegally?

I heard rumors that the new impreza CVT AWD system will be front wheel based that only engages if the front is slipping (aka CRV system)

also made in US....this is sad =(

Should probably read "CVT and parking brake boots with contrasting red stitching". The boot is the material around the shifter or parking brake handle.

'Atta boy Mike!  Good on ya for digging that up.  Now if only you could confirm the availability of a new hatchback WRX...
BTW, liked your Charger review.

Every Subaru AWD drive system paired to a CVT is more front-bias. It's not like the CR-Vs, but more of a predictable/variable system like new Audi Quattro Ultra. Although the much touted 60:40 front:rear split does occur in the CVT Subarus from a stop, as soon as the vehicle is rolling the vast majority of the power only goes to the front wheels (unless conditions call for a change). Subaru doesn't get into specifics into how much goes to the front wheels as it's always changing. This is how Subaru's achieve much better fuel economy these days.

Sounds like a significant improvement on the last - as long as the new structure and suspension also leads to reduced road (and engine) noise.

DI should help, hopefully with torque as well as power.

If there can be a six speed manual that will help too (there'd better be a manual!)

Looking foward to seeing the XV based off this platform.
