Found this copy of the BMW Canada extended warranty brochure online. The fine print at the bottom says the warranty is provided by BMW Canada Inc but administered[/b by Safe Guard Canada.   I guess we'll see how it goes.  :-\

It's amazing how time flies. The X5 will hit it's 6 year "in service" date on Nov 21 and the extended warranty will expire. In preparation i had the car into my local Euro car indie for a general checkover. Needs a rt front strut and a rt front inner axle seal. The latter is "a bugger of a job" according to my guy. More concerning is that the shudder/hesitation under heavy load that I dealt with in August of 2020 appears to be coming back after about 25,000 kms (see bottom of page 2 of this thread). I have an appointment with BMW Moncton on the 17th for them to confirm.
I’m guessing you still aren’t really interested in much out there right now to replace it with and of course how expensive this class of vehicle have got.

Yes, I still like the X5 very much but with new ones running $90K+ a second one is unlikely to be in my future. Right now the X5 is in good shape and runs/drives very well. I enjoy driving it and unless the frequency/cost of repairs gets too onerous I will probably keep it for the foreseeable future.

They're pretty capable handling vehicles too.  Last time I was at the track with the Miata I had to let one pass me, he had better tires, but still surprisingly caught up to me fairly quickly.

That's some devilish word salad.   Dare they mention the word "responsibility".

Generally, warranty resistance is growing across the board.  If margins are shrinking so does everything connected.

Manufacturer's CPO warranties certainly don't seem to be the security blanket they once were. 10-15 years ago the MB warranties covered pretty much the same as the new car 4/80 after the cosmetic/trim wear items dropped off at 12/20. Pricing has also gone crazy in recent years. I think the 2/80 extension on the MB retailed around 2400 10 years ago.....pushing 5K now

Just to update I got the work done yesterday. I took the car up the day before and came home in a rental as they needed the car for 7:30 AM start.  As it was reprogramming after the transfer case installation took until after 5:00 PM. Apparently they hand to do quite a large software download.

Now the bad news.....As I left Moncton tried to call home to let my wife know I was on the way my phone was no longer paired with the X5's bluetooth.  Tried have my phone forget the X5 and then pairing it again but the phone is not seeing the car.....almost as if the car isn't broadcasting a bluetooth signal at all. Not sure if it had to do with the software update/download but things worked normally before the repair.  :(

I'll play around with it this morning and see if my phone is still paired with the 328.....also will see if my wife's phone can see a a signal from the X5. That should at least eliminate the problem being my phone.

Oh the joys of technology.  Here’s hoping it was just a minor glitch that will work itself out.

Turned my phone off and back on. Started the car and then turned off/restarted and things worked/phone saw the car and paired. Fingers crossed.  :-\

There was one interesting thing last night when I was picking up the car. The SA said something to the effect that that extended warranty certainly paid for itself as yesterday's work would have been 10K or so.

That’s what I assumed would happen.  Likely took a while after the update to be fully back to “normal”.

Ouch! I assume you're getting rid of it after the warranty is out?
