Interesting.  I forgot this car existed.

I'm not sure I'd call it a sports car though.

As much of a sports car as an R170 SLK...  Same drivetrain, too.

I probably wouldn't, but Gurgie did say he was going off the board with this recommendation, and I don't think it's very far off.

You could probably get a lhd BMW Z3 out of Japan in that price range.

I remember them having a nasty cheap interior even by the time standards and definitely for the price.

Crossfire was essentially the R170 SLK320, the V6 vs. the SLK230 which was the supercharged 4. At the time, the V6 was considered more of the tourer, vs the boosted 4 which was sportier...I've owned both and preferred the V6, but both were great cars. They were not considered as sporty as their direct competitors at the time (Boxster, Z3), but by today's standard I'd definitely consider an R170 a sports car, and they can be had with a manual which is an oddity for Benz.

The Benz interior is pretty nice IMO, but suffers from the peeling paint issues on the console and other areas, which really looks terrible and caused a lot of people to assume the whole interior was cheap...Really, the Benz materials and layout are very nice, and it's aged well. The paint peel is a cheap/easy fix (reference my SLK230 S&S thread).

The Crossfire interior is the same layout, but uses way more grey hard plastic from the Chrysler bin.

Between the two I am not sure why anyone would choose a Crossfire over the Benz version, unless you get a real screaming deal on the Crossfire.

Does a $10-15K manual tranny sports car still exist?  In Canada?   12 years ago it was possible if you can fix things.  Not now folks, it's called inflation together with a market that stopped buying sport cars about 20 years ago (dwindling inventory).

Late C4 would be my choice because you can take it long distances with AC , but watch this first  :rofl2:

Overall, not being in the USA is the biggest negative because of the parts situation where fellow owners won't ship used parts to you because of the customs hassle.

The only way, other than a miracle, to score something worthwhile is to look in Michigan for seekers in southwestern Ontario..

There's stuff around if you look....Like I said, $15K would give you choice of some really nice C4s:

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/hamilton/canada-day-special-88-c4-red-on-red-9500/1664688902

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/peterborough/1995-chevrolet-corvette/1664598580

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/st-catharines/1986-chevrolet-corvette-convertible-white-with-red-interior/1664323337

The last one, white 86 convert, is a beautiful car.

The first one has no plates and is being sold by not the owner who is tasked in getting "rid' of his cousins "cars".  What a suckers trap that is.

The second is pretty bad as well.  Best part of the vehicle seems to be the power seat which I guess the guy had to fix.  No mention of any other mechanical repairs or length of ownership which will be on purpose.   Another stretchy sale.  Not as bad as the first.

The third ad is more normal.  Second owner, but omits how long they've own it. Kind of germane since the vehicle is 35 years old.  68K km (2000 km per year!).  That's low unless it's MILES.  Plus it looks like it's normally garaged.

No mention that any of these vettes will be sold safetied.  Really bad sign.

I found this 2004 Infiniti G35 on AutoTrader: http://www.autotrader.ca/go/19-12378749

I found this 2008 Infiniti G37 on AutoTrader: http://www.autotrader.ca/go/19-12605156

If you want something you can drive and rev the :censor: out of...Toyota Celica GTS, Acura RSX, Civic Si, etc

$10-$15k sports cars tend to be beat as hell and are on their 3rd+ owners.

The newest car you can probably find for this price range is an early FR-S / BR-Z.

Most of these have “rebuilt “ in the listing details. Low sales, high attrition rate. Fun cars for sure, but hard to find a nice one.

Miata with a hardtop may be an option?
