Little things that make you happy

We whine too much.  Maybe because it's inherently easier to see wrong vs. right.  Dunno, but if we spent more time to smell the roses along the way we'd all be happier.  Pop psychology aside, I made a concerted effort this morning to record things that make me happy on the way to work.  They're not big things.  They're not materialistic things.  They're things that I wouldn't notice if I didn't look for them.  Hopefully they'll make you happy too....if only vicariously.

Chipmunk which I haven't seen since the Fall running up to look for handouts at the train platform

Young girl skipping rope (and crossovers!) while smiling onlookers try unsuccessfully to stifle their smiles at the bus stop.

Sewer grate appearing magically at my feet just as I was wondering where to pour yesterday's coffee out of my mug.

Getting on a double-decker bus for the first time and sitting in the very front upper deck seat.

Today it was walking from the parking lot to the office and smelling spring in the air (and no I don't mean drying dog sh!t as my colleague suggested  :rofl: )

The sun is now above the rooflines as I wait for the bus in the morning. Even though it was -8, I could already feel the warmth. Very nice change.

I love the mornings when I get out of bed, look out the windows and see this pure light red sky.
it's like an art painting.   I just only wish I had more time to head out and take pictures.


there are these moments when i see a massive group of birds take off all at once and do this "dance" in the air.   Sometimes it last for a few minutes, sometimes longer.  The most amazing ones seem to go with the music.   it may sound crazy but it seems like a magical moment.

Got to take the longboard to work again for the first time in a while. Skating carefully over the newly frozen ice on the sidewalk.

AND got to hold hands with the gf on the way there.

Cool idea.

Traffic was light this morning, even with a minor accident on the 401, got to work a little early.

Getting all green lights on my way to the highway is always a good (but very rare) occasion.

Some mornings leaving my neighbourhood I see another guy leaving his house in a mid 90's Camaro...If I am in the Firebird I wave and he waves back - nice to know I am not the only sucker out driving one of these things at 6:30am in the winter.

Seeing anyone driving a well maintain old (15-20+) car that's obviously not just a toy but a daily vehicle also makes me smile. For example, there's a guy I often see driving on Yonge near Eglington with a well maintained early 70's 911 all year round, no matter the weather.

It puts a smile on my face whenever I see a couple of jeunes filles playing PUNCH BUGGY.  ;D

Checked my account balance before leaving the gym to go to work - pay day! ;D

...and averaging 4.3L/100km over my commute from home to the gym (granted, 5am there's no traffic and all green lights on a slight downhill).

...and noticing that I'm not wearing a suit since it's casual Friday!

...man, this is harder than it looks!

I love taking the backroads to work. On a beautiful morning such as today there was a light mist on the fields and the sun was just coming up......had Rage Against the Machine on the stereo.....take it away Ice Cube

I usually take a slightly differnet way home in the afternoon than I do in the morning, just to change it up a bit.

Arriving at work ealy enough to get one of the close end spots.

Arriving atvwork to fine nobody in line at the Timmie's

Once the nicer weather arrives, any day I can take the motorcycle to work instead of thecar makes me very happy!

You're absolutely right!  I was trying to align the thread title with other threads but in doing that I lost the sense of what I was trying to say along the way.

Seeing my front lawn for the 1st time since late November.  That makes me happy.
