I always loved the look of these, and used prices were reasonable. However, from my research reliability is not this car's strong suit and fuel economy wasn't great by 2007 standards and is horrid by today's.

I researched these last year. They have some major engine issues that are disconcerting, timing chain, oil sludge, and turbo failures. Too bad, they're about the best looking small CUV's imo.

We looked at this when we bought the Forester since Lady Noto's family has owned Mazda after Mazda and would could get one for a hella good price (unreasonably good, actually).

...but she hated two things about it: 1) outward visibility (it's a long car, and felt very dark due to the tints and the dark interior trim on the tester model), and 2) the turbo power really was a "whoosh" and wasn't particularly linear.

That is, if you held your foot at the same position on the accelerator, it would go, then REALLY go, then die off.  It just wasn't for us, but a really nice vehicle.

Bit off topic, but I haven't derailed a thread in a while.

Can we see a used car review for the Q7, been around since 2007.  New one goes on sale in a few months...

A friend has one, he likes it a lot but he's had quite a bit of warranty work done which is a pain with no local dealer.

I like the Q5 tdi, as a replacement vehicle for the minivan 2-3 years.  But since the TDI is new this year, wonder if a Q7 is better?  Like more value.  A 2012 Q7 TDI, vs 2014 Q5 TDI.

Warranty work with powertrain issues?  Electrical gremlins?  Sunroofs?

The CX-7 never made it to our short list when SUV shopping. Nothing real tangible as to why... its just Meh.

My first impression of the CX7 was seeing it in a Wendy's parking lot many years ago when it first came out, and thinking that it was a damn good looking CUV.  Even today, I would still consider it among the more handsome of vehicles.  Seeing the interior pictures though, not sure I'd like it compared to today's products.

Well today's vehicles are three years newer, so I would expect more...CX-7 was sharp, CX-5 even more so.  Not talking powertrains.  The power of the turbo is nice, but I wouldn't want turbos long term, less forgiving than naturally aspirated motors.

I was researching these when our Hyundai dealer recently had a nice 2012 model in a pretty blue/grey. Surprisingly Consumer Reports doesn't even list it in their annual Auto issue's reliability section. Wondering if their were not enough sold in the US to generate sufficient data. I know Mazdas are less popular there. Like most posters I love the looks (still fresh to my eyes) hate the mileage and have serious reservations about reliability on the Turbo compared to modern ones.

The (rare) 2.5 litre non-turbo CX-7s are the ones to get used. When Car and Driver tested the original turbo version, they got all of 14mpg out of it... Always liked the looks of that right-sized CUV, and the interior was pretty modern and nice too.

Friends of ours replaced their 4 year old CX-7 last year with a new Camry.  Poor gas mileage was his reason.  It is a handsome looking vehicle for a cuv.

Mazdas are super popular around here with the 3 very common and now the CX-5 obviously selling well based on how many I see.  But, the mid sized SUV is "the king of the burbs" and Highlanders, Pilots and their RX/MDX upscale cousins clogging up freeways leading to soccer pitches, arenas, and box stores.  Down one size, and the CR-V and RAV take up a lot more parking spots at those venues, with Foresters and CX-5s jockeying for room.

Mazda gave us a handsome pair in the CX-7 and CX-9, but I just don't see many around and haven't ever known anyone that kept one.  I knew a couple people that had them, but quickly traded them off citing high running costs and a dealer experience unfit for the price of the vehicle.

I don't think the '12 was sold in the US. Canada had the CX-7 for a bit longer than the U.S.

They don't show data for ANY of the years...strange
