Yeh, some parking lots are overly endowed with curbs IMO also. Some dissappear below the dash line at turns and can cause damage. I wonder if any highway accidents are caused because of parking lot damage to wheels by curbs. This is an important issue.

It's Car Advice in Australia - they tested the 6 most popular CUVs for their domestic market.

I was specifically referring to their praise of the soft off-road (beach driving) capabilities of the Rav4 and the Outlander over the CX-5, Forester, Tiguan, and CR-V.  No, this isn't a major off-road competition, but they commented on the Forester's nanny system not being able to be completely defeated and it made sand driving a little 'less good' (for grammatical excellence), whereas the Rav4 had 'enough' ground clearance and T/C could be completely shut off.  Hilariously, they bottomed out the Tiguan and destroyed its a/c unit, among other things, so they had to take it home and couldn't finish the comparison.

As for the Outlander, they felt that it was the most competent on the beach.  Video links here:

I'm not overly crazy about the new styling, but I have yet to see one in person, so I will withhold judgement. The EVO, aggresive look was one of the main reasons I bought an Outlander in 2011. Oh, and I never put premium gas in mine and I've never noticed anything weird. The engine still pulls nice and sounds great.

I saw one in the flesh yesterday.

Arguably, this segment is the most important for Mitsubushi given the number of sales and the profit per sale.  This will be a flop and will a death blow to Mitsu in NA.

Yeah I'm surprised they didn't do more with it given its a new generation.

I find it odd that so many are so quick to write the eulogy for Mitsubishi in North America. If you have, other than your personal opinion, real evidence, then offer it up. But, I agree, I am not so crazy about the new styling. It doesn't offend me, it's just a little boring looking. But every vehicle in this segment is at least a little derivative and dull to me. I'm so tired of the pointy look and misplaced creases that so many of these CUVs have these days.

Styling is subjective and matters only to the one making the payments.

But yeah, they should have made it look like an EVO.....

I say they bring back the Pajero/Montero/Shogun, with the 4M4 turbodiesel or the 6G75 petrol. They need a full size suv, the Endeavor was a horrid, horrid idea, and looking at the new Pajero when I was down in Mexico...wow, what a beautiful vehicle. This Outlander isnt a bad vehicle but it doesnt have anything that makes it stand out, give it the Evo drivetrain, or a really good diesel drivetrain and it would sell. Right now its lost in a sea of CUV. Oh yeah, this is what the new Pajero looks like

Lighten up Francis.....

Mitsie had the split rear drop down door - sort of mini tailgate

that was actually the most brilliant feature!
we could sit on the tailgate after a day of skiing, drinking beers and not get ourselves full of salt stains!

I diagree.
Mitsu only has 3 mainstream vehicles (and 1 electical vehicle) in Canada - thats it.
Lancer, RVR and Outlander.
No Galant, No Eclipse, No Montero.
The last manufacture that only had that few offerings was Suzuki.

Furthermore the vehicles they do have, how well do they compete in their class, do they even have a selling point?
Toyota/Honda - reliability
Mazda - fun-to-drive
Subaru - AWD system
Nissan - cheap(er)
Mistu - ?

In regards to styling and CUV, the CX-5 is much nicer looking than the Outlander (thats one of the reason I got it)
The RAV4 exterior styling is growing on me.

It literally makes me upset when I see that ad with the guy in the invisible suit.  The new outlander is so amazingly derivative, boring, and brings nothing new to the table, yet the new ads pretend like its the 2nd coming...

Black Hatch, I know this is an old thread, but I'm only aware of the Outlander now. I'm looking at it.  There are a number of brands with only 4 products on the market, including Subaru, which you cited as being otherwise.  Subaru actually just announced the cancellation of the Tribeca, which means they're down to 3!   (Forester, Impreza, Legacy/Outback).  Lincoln has 4 (MKZ, MKS, MKX, MKT)

Mitsu - 10 year bumper to bumper warranty.

don't care how unreliable your vehicle is...with a 10 year warranty...it's moot point.  THAT is it's selling feature!

My dads Montero, now ours, is almost 10 years old, nothing but standard maintenance needed.

Subaru has more than 3 products.
You are missing the Crosstrek, BRZ and WRX. Outback is also separate from the Legacy.

But most importantly they are backed by Toyota which has a stake in their company stock.
Also Subaru is doing amazingly well in the United States. Look it up.

Lincoln should die but it's a Ford company so they can do whatever they want.

Have to agree with Black Hatch, not that I dislike Mitsubishi. But they are in a tough state, need a partner or something.  The last generation Outlander was better overall in my opinion.  The RVR is ok, but don't like the CVT, and I like the Lancer, but it needs a better interior, and a better price.

it does not come with 10 yr bumper to bumper warranty that is on the powertrain only or 160,000 km whichever comes first.  The regular warranty is a 5 yr/100k limited warranty.

Really?  Last I checked Hyundai and KIA don't offer that crazy major components warranty in Canada.  Only in the US.  And in the US, the warranty is not transferable to the next owner.

correct on all accounts mix.

and the 10 year powertrain warranty on Mits products is only to new owners also (meaning, if you sell your car in 5 years, it's out of warranty).
