Weight plays such a huge factor in performance and doesn't get nearly as much consideration as the horsepower number. This was a great quick morning read, thanks for the review guys. It won't be for everyone, but I'd have the Toybaru twins before most anything else in the price range.

Good review - I like the report of how each car did on each segment of the track. What tires were they running?

Very nice I also liked the breakdown for each segment. I think there are multiple reviews out there that all say the same thing. The BRZ is the best handling for the $ car you can buy right now. If you want a "sports car" and have less than 30 K plus tax its a category of 1 (well 2 since they are twins).

Waiting now for ma full year long term review of what it is like to live with one as a daily driver. Unfortuatley I'll probably never own one as I can't afford a "toy" car with 2 kids but nice to know they are out there within the reach of mere mortals.

Can't speak for the Subaru, but that Genesis Coupe model runs the Bridgestone Potenza RE92A all-season tire. The R-Spec/3.8 GT models run a much sticker Potenza RE050A ultra-high performance summer tire.

I've now read many reviews on the BRZ/FRS and every time it's the same conclusion.  The car is fun to drive and handles amazingly.  One test I recall had the Prius tires swapped out for proper summer rubber and the car went around that particular track faster than a WRX and a MS3  :rofl2:.

Great video. Liked how you moved the centre line between two window panes to show more into the corner.
No question, Suby has a more capable chassis but at a price of daily driving comfort.
I would still pick the Toyobaru as I believe it will be more reliable longer term and hold its value much better than the Genesis.

Great vid James.

the toybaru seem to corner tighter, while gen coupe, you seem to take wider arc.  which i guess is the character of the car.

and later into the vid, it's noticeable how gen coupe starts to lag behind toybaru.

I would take either one, honestly, if i were shopping.  (but gen coupe seems to be more in line with what i got already, so preference to the toybaru.. :) )

The only place where Toyobaru cheaped out on the BRZ was its tires (they're the tires the Prius wear in Europe) so its pretty sad and pathetic that the Genesis' tires are even worse.  Those RE92A's are pretty garbage.  I think they were the OEM tires on Mazda Protege's.

Too bad about the crap tires on the Genesis, RE92's....really, those are something you stick on the sports Caravan not on a coupe. I was honestly surprised that the Genesis got whopped by such a margin.
Lighten up Francis.....

I saw a white Toyota the other day - looked quite smart in that colour. Very silly they include such an odd tire choice. They really are trying to push those fuel economy numbers up I guess. I also read somewhere the crappy tires make it more tail happy for lower speed over-steer fun - wonder if that is true?

The toyota with forced induction would be pretty great. I am totally spoiled with the turbo on my MINI.

Interesting that this Civic Si HFP - BRZ comparo shows the lowly Civic with as much capability as dedicated (as in BRZ) and more powerful (as in Genesis 2.0T) cars within its class ... Honda still knows how to build sporting cars

Honda also know how to make boring looking sports cars IMO. The North American Civics need a major overhaul in the looks department to appeal to me. Also I am not sure about the HFP version, but the stock SI has the extremely annoying feature of holding the engine revs during gear shifts to improve fuel economy - a feature in some cars that drives me nuts.

Looks like a fair comparision.  Truly the BRZ/FRS is a true sports car where as the Genesis is more of a GT.  Where the BRZ may struggle to keep up in a straight line, it more than makes up for it in the curves.  Hopefully there aren't to many teens or young adults that think by getting behind the wheel of the BRZ/FRS, it automatically makes them a drift king.

OEM tires on my Protege were Dunlops.
