2023 Montreal Auto Show
« on: January 19, 2023, 09:55:14 am »
I'll be there on opening day, Friday Jan 20th, probably 10 am to noon should anybody else is planning to attend. So far, I hear so many manufacturers have pulled out that the show fits in a single room, where half the floor is occupied by various exotics from local collectors / dealers. I get in for free so I won't complain  ;D

So what did you think? Is it worth going if someone wants to shop and compare mainstream brands like Mazda / Nissan or Kia? Is BMW and Audi there?
If you want more in life you have to make an effort.

Don't go.

Present:

Lexus
Toyota
Nissan
Hyundai
Kia
Subaru
GM
Tesla (one Y and one X)
MINI (Countryman SE and one Cooper)
Lambo/Lotus
Shelby Canada
Vinfast

Absent:

Everybody else!!

The whole thing fits in a single room, including the vendors, restaurants and exotic car collections. It's not worth $18 unless you want to drool over Luc Poirier's Ferrari collection.

No test drives this year. Plenty of Lyrics on the floor, they look really, really nice.

So the major manufacturers that were there had pretty good displays, with good selection. Toyota had a lot of floor space, and the Prii got a lot of attention from show goers. Pretty decent section too for GM, they even brought the Equinox EV (roped off though).

Demand vs supply shows though - the hot-selling Sportage had a single gas model on the floor, and one HEV set on a stage where you could not get near it.

Nissan had a single Ariya, an all-black fwd mid-trim and for me that was the revelation of the show. It's right-sized, and offers a flat floor upfront. Prices are way up there though.

Nissan did not happen to have the new 2023 Qashqai? I am referring to the new one they have been selling in Europe. I ask Nissan Canada if it is coming all I got was Crickets........IE nothing.......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8IdzYizruY

I am afraid they are just going to carry on with the old model here in Canada.

The old one carries on in Canada for 2023 and they had one on the show floor.

According to this the Lyric is available for test drives.

No idea where that was, I sure did not see anything relating to that!

Last time I went (January 2020 ? IIRC), you had to reserve your road test for an EVs, there was a large selection of vehicles at that time but the waiting time on site was significant....

It seem you can reserve on site Back for another year! Bookings of road tests are done on site level 2, at the entrance of the Montreal Auto Show for this event

I'll pass and wait until April 21-23, 2023
Montreal Electric Vehicle show
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...

Too bad.  :( I think they are missing an opportunity to gain sales. It looks wayyyy better and is getting very good reviews.

Same with the new Toyota C-HR and we’re not getting that either.

Yellow. It looked yellow  :stick: Had a bit of an economy car vibe as it was in the local Lambo-Lotus dealer's roped-off space. The 2022 Countach was a few vehicles away. The Emira is small-ish next to the Italian bulls, was priced at $105k.

My 2022 dream car was there, and in the right colour too. Somehow the 2023 styling "upgrades" make it even more invisible than before. This is a top-shelf GT with the 260 hp turbo four - modern day all-weather Q-ship.

Thank you for that.  They don't let you past the rope to have a closer look or even maybe sit in it?  At $105K I wonder what model it is?  Is it the 4 cylinder or the V6?  I'd be running my numbers again to see if I can squeeze $105K into the budget for next time, maybe trading in my Civic Si and getting a true beater for winter months.

Of course it'll look poor next to the Lambo's, especially that gorgeous Countach.

This one had a supercharged Toyota V6 (interesting that the sign mentioned the Toyota engine). I liked that it looks sporty but not brawny/showy. Could not glance at the interior, sadly.
