Dealer will not do the rebate at all, neither for cash purchase, or lease.

Terrible dealer....find another.

By doing so, you have to put up $13K of your own cash?

I'd be telling them to hit the road.

Interested to see the car.

Yep. I recall from a Ford ad we discussed a few months ago (Thornhill location) they were taking care of the gov-t rebates...
I concur.

Ford took care of everything.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Took delivery today of my new 2017 Smart ED.
Rides really smoothly, strong regenerative braking, modern tech (with 7" touch screen option), charges 2x faster.
Quiet, and it's a good highway car.

Congratulations! It is surprising that this little car is good on the highway. Does it have steering correction during cross winds?

https://www.smart.com/ca/en/index/smart-fortwo-453/assistance-systems-and-safety.html

One of the options is a cross wind assist system.

Quote
Crosswind assist.
Crosswind assist is even able to compensate strong gusts of wind. When the esp® sensors sense the vehicle is at risk of leaving the lane they automatically initiate controlled brake intervention. The vehicle stays on course and the steering effort is greatly reduced.

Crosswind assist assists the driver in the event of sudden gusts of wind:
Course-correcting brake intervention via esp®
Much less drifting off track, resulting in noticeably lower steering effort
Enhanced safety and comfort for the driver
Activated from a speed of 80 km/h during straight-ahead driving and in slight bends

Happy motoring!

I only popped the hood of my old Smart ED a few times to change the washer fluid.

I've already looked under the front hood of the new Smart, just a 12V battery and washer fluid.   Not much to see or do under the front hood in a rear wheel drive EV!

True story.   I filled my Smart ED with a bottle of old washer fluid I had in the back corner of the garage and when I used it the first time the windshield streaked completely, almost like I was putting a sugar coating on the glass...I had to change the fluid , not just refill.

When I took all of the receipts and details out of my old car before trading it in, I found only two maintenance items, a $3 light bulb and washer fluid purchase.   Hope my new Smart ED runs as cheaply.

Un-labelled blue liquid, yeah, very possibly, that's the risk you take when the container is so old the label fell off...  l-)

Tells you how long it's been since I maintained a vehicle, I used to spend weekends on my ICE cars, and restored vintage cars with my dad, so it's a shame I am forgetting everything I learned I suppose, but such is the nature of technology.

I literally spent a few minutes of maintenance in 4 years on my 2013 Smart Electric Drive, easily the most robust car I've ever owned.  Not a rattle, even for a cheaply built car, pretty solid motoring on the cheap.

I did it once, "summer" version of windshield washer fluid was frozen into the reservoir and conduit, I haved to park the car for a night in a friend's garage to help fixing this  ::)

Took a trip today to check out the range of the new Smart ED.
Did 77 km, with 15 km remaining on trip estimate gauge.
Cabin set to 22C on a 6C day, had heated seat and heated steering wheel on.
Did two 40x highway runs for 10 minutes, the rest on back roads.
20 kWh/100 km efficiency.

If anything, the new Smart ED is more efficient, and for sure, a truly comfortable and quiet car to drive on rough back roads or highway.

At least his 100km only cost him $2 in electricity. That’s half what my motorcycle uses in gasoline.
