Pressure washer recommendation
« on: June 15, 2021, 09:27:31 am »
All, do you have recommendations for a pressure washer? Criteria:

- Car wash mostly, some house stuff
- Compact
- Relatively quite

I was looking at this Ryobi unit, recognizing that for any I'll likely upgrade the hose and fittings. Not price sensitive.

Thanks

I love it when a plan comes together.

I've got an older electric Ryobi. It's ok, doesn't always go to full pressure for some reason, or takes a while to get there (air lock?)

The biggest annoyance is the stiff plastic hose, awkward to work with. Should check to see if it is replaceable, if I can sort the pressure situation

Every reviewer recommend replacement hoses and fittings. Longer more flexible hoses. Sounds like they're onto something. thx

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

I have a slightly bigger Ryobi I bought last year.   Cart handle and wheels on it

It seems to be fine with a few hours on it now.   No real problems with hoses or fittings.

It does take a few seconds to get the water flowing through it before firing it up, that's so the pump doesn't die AFAIK.
So far, I would buy it again over the Simoniz junk I've had before

I have an old Simoniz 1600 Sprayer - have had it at least 5-7 years. I likelybought it on sale at CT for ~$100 or so.
Works fine for car use and backyard pool deck clean up.
Drain it in the Fall and take it to the basement to prevent freezing.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

I can comment on this as I just bought one a couple weeks ago to retire a tired old unit.

I ended up with a Powerplay Spyder from CDN Tire.

First things first: I wanted compact when not in use. I store mine in the garage so a small footprint was one of the main "wants". And this delivers. It is without a doubt very compact when not in use, taking up barely more room than a couple jugs of washer fluid. See photo. It's also light. IQ can easily pick it up and carry it around one hand. It's less than 20 pounds I'd say. Set up is a breeze: screw wand into hand trigger, screw hoses into unit, plug in and go.

Next was stability. Since it's so squat and compact and has 4 wheels on wide outriggers, this thing NEVER tips. And it drags easily across the lawn too. Important for me as I spray my house after the June fly invasion.

It's quiet. At 2000psi it's  strong enough for my needs (general cleanup, foam cannon/car washing). See patio brick I sprayed with 25 years of dirt. And again..I can't stress how compact, light yet stable it is.

Now I had a hard time (initially) finding adequate reviews. But then I found it's just a re badged Westinghouse sprayer as sold in the US, so there's plenty of reviews.

All in all, I'm really pleased with this one provided it lasts a good while.

Before you go to Canadian Tire and buy one of those that Ron suggested I found them at Costco for a better price.  Not saying they won't go on sale at CT for cheap, just when they are full price the Costco ones are a better "deal" and likely have superior customer service if you run into any issues.

Crap...I forgot to mention I knew that.

BUT...the model at Costco is the "old" version.  You can tell by a) the clear/white hose.  Which everyone said kinked easily and has been replaced by a flexible braided hose.  b) it's 2000 PSI (newer one is 2030) c) 1.2 GPM vs. 1.4 GPM for the new version.

I bought the Kobalt electric 1700 psi one a year ago. Currently on sale for $89. Works well and will fit other brand 1/4" accessories.

Can't beat the price!!  Sheesh!!

For sure would work great.

This one is on sale for$99 at Lowes (Reno Depot in Quebec). Get good ratings.

Funny it is a huge sale price in Quebec. Supposedly $90.00 off reg price of $189.00 and yet at Lowes it looks like $99.00 is regular price.

There is some pretty sleazy marketing going on here in Quebec.

If you want more in life you have to make an effort.
