New truck supply - NA
« on: September 23, 2021, 11:59:47 am »
I was told by my company back in late spring that a new truck was ordered for me and that I could expect it to arrive sometime in the fall.  My current truck is old and has lots of issues and now it needs service again.  I've had so much down time lately due to truck issues that I'm way behind with my work.  I called fleet this morning to get an update on the new one and the rep just laughed and said they can't get any at all.  Normally we get Fords but he said they also tried ordering from Chev, Dodge, and even Toyota but none of them have any available until some time in the New Year.  At this point I have no idea what I'll be getting, or when.  :P

A good friend of mine tried buying a new Taco last month but the dealer said they couldn't get anything in until late Oct at the earliest.  He needs one right away so he ended up buying a used 2015 Colorado.

Crazy times!

Yup.

That's why 3-4 year old trucks of ANY make/model are selling for MORE than what they sell for new.  It's crazy times.

Our area was going to surplus an older pickup and another division snapped it up before it got to auction

There still seems to be a fair number of new SUV's and cars around, but pickups are getting really slim

Coworker of mine got his new fleet vehicle a few weeks ago and it's a 2019 F-250 with absolutely no options.  Completely bare bones with roll up windows and no cruise.  At least it has AC.  No idea where they got it from either.

We had difficulty getting rentals for field staff, thus some ended up using their own vehicles if possible.  Everyone is looking for trucks.

I'm surprised they still make trucks with wind-up windows and no cruise.  I figured power windows, locks, keyless entry, cruise and AC counted as basic equipment these days.

They might now but this his is a 2019.  We have a few bare bones units in our fleet and most are older F-250s.  My 2013 F-150 XL has the basics like cruise/ac/power windows and locks, but does not have heated side mirrors and that is a glaring omission when combined with a windowless box cap.  Not just in winter either.  With the high humidity that we get here my side mirrors are covered in dew almost every morning in summer, and frost in winter.  No backup camera either and my rear bumper is covered in dents from backing into trailer hitches.

the bad news is that prices will likely never go back to what they used to be...cash on the hood? nope...all gone with the wind.

Just wait until Ford eventually gets ECU's installed in those hundreds of thousands of trucks they built that are just sitting in parking lots.  I bet there will be plenty of incentives to get rid of those guys!

My brother said a friend of his wanted a new Tacoma too but couldn’t get one and had to settle for a 2017 TRD Pro for $40k.

A friend finally got the F-150 that he ordered in the spring last month.

In 2011 I had to wait 3 months for a truck that I order , so that is not to bad

I think his wait was five months. I know his previous F-150 was way quicker, probably under two months from order to delivery.

trucks are hit and miss... but for some, it is true insanity. i had a city employee come by because they weren't getting their fleet orders. he bought a used truck that was just a stupid price... but he said he had no other option.

had two new style rams ordered in feb. get delayed to 2022. it was partially due to certain selected options, as well as me letting the factory know that the original customer couldn't wait that long so we sold them something else. ridiculous.

when i left the dealership, we had 4 new trucks. all classic v6's.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now
