I expect the Maverick to be priced from $25k. Remember it's a compact unibody FWD based ute.

Compact unibody FWD based crossovers barely start below $25k and you expect a crew cab pickup version of the same to?

If they end up depreciating as much as the Escape does they'll get cheap pretty quick

More of an issue is what the reliability will be like

It's possible.  It really depends how Ford specs the vehicle in Canada. The Ranger could have been cheaper in Canada too if they had more base versions like they have in the U.S. If they choose to spec it like the Ranger we have here it will be higher. The truth is we don't know until it arrives.

I love this chop-top Maverick 4-door I spotted in Ottawa years ago.

I think they should have used this platform for the rebirth of the Ranger.  Because as it sits now, the Ranger is sort if in a no man's land.  And the sales seems to reflect that.

The problem with the Ranger is it was like 2-3 into it's lifecycle in other markets before it came here, which put it behind all the newer competition from the get go.  I think when the next generation comes out we will see a much more competitive Ranger.

Yes, and during development it may not have been as optimized for the North American market as it could have been.

Looks very promising.

I think the IRS is a huge deal as lots of ppl want a medium size truck that can do everything and also ride nicely. A cherry on the cake would be a traditional 6-8 spd auto and a naturally aspirated V6 but that's a bit much to ask for...

I think this looks better than the current Ridgeline as far as CUV based trucks go.  It'll be interesting to see how they package it for our market and what the price will be.  I'm sure in the states there will a stripped out RWD option to meet a certain price point but up here in Canada I think they would be smart to just stick with AWD.

This would be FWD based, like the Ridgeline, would it not?

Yes you are right, should have said FWD, my mistake.

Anyway, I take away my previous skepticism about the point of this vehicle.  I get it now.  I could see something like this being popular with the 'active' crowd - Mountain Bikers, snowboarders, etc.  I see it's got a factory hitch and harness.  I wonder what its rated to tow.  I'd guess maybe about 3500lbs, or enough to pull a small pop-up trailer, or a little trailer with couple of dirtbikes or a small boat.

I do get why you would be confused as to why have this if you already have the Ranger.  In the pictures it doesn't seem that much smaller if any.  Based on the price of the vehicle this truck is based off of I doubt it'll be much cheaper than a Ranger.  It'll be interesting how it is received by the public.  I can totally see it being mostly first time truck buyers who end up in them.

Honestly I think Ford would have been better off coming out with a Bronco pickup (based off the proper Bronco) and getting rid of the Ranger altogether.

If the Gladiator is any indication, a Bronco pickup would sell pretty well around here.

Huh? The Ranger is the second best selling small truck!
