TESLA Model S
« on: March 26, 2009, 09:38:10 pm »
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/26/tesla-model-s-50-000-ev-sedan-seats-seven-300-mile-range-0-6/

A few things are still not clear, but on paper it looks beyond my expectations. It is a full EV with range from 160 to 300 miles, new battery chemistry (whatever that might be) that Musk says will cost them under 5k to replace and that's for a 42 kWh pack! 5.5 - 6 sec 0-60 ... and did I mention it's a 7 (SEVEN) seater?  ;D

Battery pack is floor mounted and it is designed to be swappable. I'm thinking Better Place. Changing time 5-8 min and charging as fast as 45 min. Much more in the link, but IMHO now THIS is the sign of things to come. 160 miles for 5 bucks worth of hydro. Crazy!

If they fail someone should at least buy the bodyshell.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

If it achieves the claimed performance i will be very impressed, I have to admit i never thought research would progress to allow the kind of range and performance numbers they are quoting, within the next 15 years.

Even if its short of the range numbers the designers have certainly gave it a very nice look.

A bodyshell like that deserves a nice 4-cam 60deg  2.5 litre V6 with a 7000 rpm redline that develops 300 bhp in place of the jump seats .  Something like a  mid 70's   Dino engine...

I wonder why an electric car needs such a large "radiator " grille ?

Looks better with that grille. I think it may actually have a rad in front for liquid motor cooling system.

If they fail someone should at least buy the bodyshell.

Fisker would be a sensible buyer - the Tesla reminds me of their luxury eco model, the Karma.

There won't be much left once Maserati takes back the front half and Aston Martin takes back the back half.

I'll believe it when it's finally in showrooms for sale.  Tesla jacked the prices several times on their Roadster and pushed the release date back several times too.....

And the Fisker is also a pipedream...

Bob...you can't even imagine how much of a dream!!  I spoke to them the very 1st year they were in Detroit.  I asked all the usual questions....and everytime got "It's proprietary information, we can't say".  I even got the same response when I asked what tires they'd be using!!!  I knew then that their car was more dream than anything else....

I don't know who's penning the tin down at Tesla, but if I ran a car company, they'd be on my list of people to steal!!

The Roadster costs US$140,000, the Roadster Sport another $25,000.  The Model S might be around $200,000.  I'm starting to think that diesel Mercs and Bimmers are a good deal.  I can use the left-over money to buy more carbon credits.

The Technology will get past on. If does what they says on the tin. I think it a massive leap forward. If the MPG range is 150-300.  :)

funny.. they layed off all their engineering staff after the car was built.

i.e. don't expect any improvements or new models anytime soon...
