Watch the Wynn government throw even MORE money at it....

IMO, the EV rebates you have there in Ontario are completely ridiculous and obviously they haven't worked all that well.

Never knew this place was out there , Plug’n Drive Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre

https://www.plugndrive.ca/electric-vehicle-discovery-centre/

One problem the the location, if you are out of town it would be a pain to drive there

Auto trade should do a story on this place

Analysis of the latest Tesla numbers:

https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2017/12/wolf-richter-carmegeddon-tesla.html

Quote
Four: This is where hype goes to die. In February 2017, Tesla hyped these Model 3 production numbers for 2017:

Quote
Our Model 3 program is on track to start limited vehicle production in July and to steadily ramp production to exceed 5,000 vehicles per week at some point in the fourth quarter and 10,000 vehicles per week at some point in 2018.

November is solidly in the fourth quarter. 5,000 vehicles per week would mean over 20,000 a month. OK, this is November and not December, so maybe 4,000 a week for a total of 16,000. We got 345.
'Cause you can only drive down Main St. so many times

It is 'A' future.   I think I'd prefer one with  all the gasoline made from Alberta oil, with no ethanol and at only 75cents a litre including taxes. Maybe Potemkin village style fake charging stations set up where the politicians can see them from their limos as they drive past. Happy smiling peasants pretending to fill their electric cars with the People's Electricity.

^^^  Internal combustion: the thrust I trust.

Now, when Elon actually shows how to recharge an electric semi in 30 minutes without dimming the lights in half the continent...that might be a different thing. That will mean being able to add range to a car as fast as a gas pump can do it.        Such a shame that a tiny nuclear reactor isn't possible to fit at 'gas' stations to recharge fast... or even to mount in a semi.

I think it should be a sliding scale rebate that goes away at about $50K or so.  I'm all for encouraging EV proliferation, but only for mass-market cars.

+1.   Agree.   I've received two rebates on my two Smart ED purchases.   About $22K total.   Given the ridiculous $28K MSRP for the Smart, it's hard to justify it on cost grounds without rebate.   Smart makes a brilliant little commuting car, I just cannot fathom how they price their cars, EV or not.

Whereas I don't care if I get a rebate for the Tesla Model 3 we have on reservation, it will be a lot of car for the money compared to equivalent BMW, Porsche or Audi.   Looking to spec dual motor performance Model 3 with 3.5s 0-100 km/h and auto-pilot options for somewhere north of $75K CDN.

Viewed a few P85D CPO used cars on Tesla site, appealing for ~$80K, considering upgrade my wife's S85 to that, but the Model 3 is smaller and fits our needs better than a large car.   The Tesla S was the only long range EV option when my wife was considering trading her MB SUV.   We keep waiting for choices to appear, but so far, Tesla is the only game in town for a premium long range purely electric vehicle.

Unlike most fanboys, I actually read and try to make sense of the financials.

And this was one of the financials I couldn't make sense of. In that I was surprised at how much money was made from service for cars we were told required little, if any service.

Again...these are not made up numbers, rather numbers directly from Tesla financials.

Well, we have a 4 year warranty as of our purchase date mid-2015.

I have budgeted to keep upgrading to own a Tesla within warranty, and intend to do so prior to mid 2019 when our current S85 reaches end of comprehensive warranty.  Battery and drive train warranty till 2021.

So far, $600 total out of pocket maintenance cost over our 50000 km driven.
Everything else was included.

Tesla provided the following service
1.  New braking package in late 2015.   Upgraded calipers and pads.   No cost.
2.  Numerous feature upgrades, including automatic GPS based air suspension, continuous climate control, newer google maps in car navigation, supercharger routing with real time energy charts, waze integration via in-car web browser, etc.   No cost, over the air upgrades.
3.  Two warranty repairs, cabin heater, battery heater.   Received P85D loaners during repair period.
4.  One time full car inspection late 2016, $600 included new wipers, brake fluid flush/fill.
5.  Replaced rear motor.  Original motor was strong and smooth, but made a sound.  Tesla identified and replaced, no cost.

No issues getting service immediately for warranty work (item #3), next day, with loaner provided.

So yeah, that's a positive personal experience.

The negative about owning a Tesla, it sucks to drive gas rental cars like I did last week.

i read that article and it left me with a lot of questions. do these "costs" include expenses that pertain to production issues or are they specific to wear and tear issues inherent to the design of the vehicles?

There was no break down in costs.

I'd imagine production issues would perhaps fall under warranty, and not income as is servicing profit.
